Hi!

My name is Erin! I'm a 32 year old woman who has the pleasure of living in sunny Florida.

I am lucky enough to live a busy life with great friends, a wonderful family and a job I absolutely love!! Unfortunately, I hate my weight. I'm embarrassed about my body image and even though I've tried for what feels like MILLIONS of times to lose weight - I always end up gaining more.

I never really thought I'd be one to consider surgery but at this point, I feel like it's the only option that will actually work.

I'm ready for my body to be able to keep up with the rest of me!

I look forward to getting to know the people of this forum. I'm so nervous right now because I am at the very beginning stages and I have no idea if my insurance is going to cover my surgery. It -is- a covered benefit, but who knows if that means it will be covered for me!

Wish me luck!:)

Hey Erin,

I'm new here too from TX contimplating a lapband to improve my quality of life.

I haven't approached my insurance company yet, but I probably won't get any good news. Plus, I'm nervous.

Welcome and look forward chatting with you.

Good Luck! I am a newb too. My insurance doesn't offer ANY coverage. I'm paying out of pocket. Where there is a will, there is a way!! Hope to hear more about your journey!

Good luck, Erin. I'm in a similar position where the insurance company claims to cover the surgery... provided you can meet all their requirements. I suggest checking their website or calling to see just what they require for coverage. I initially thought I was going to have to do a 6 month diet, but they now only require 3. I have to complete that and several other steps and then see if they really will pay for it. I'm hoping they'll come through for me.

Thanks for the welcomes!! I look forward to seeing how our journeys play out!!

As far as insurance coverage - I've had conflicting reports. MY insurance company says that no 6 month diet is required and I don't have to prove a 5 year history. The bariatric center that I want to go through says that insurance companies will say that but when the Dr sends in the Letter of Medical Necessity, they say that they require all these other things. I don't want to wait 6 months and I'm not sure what I can prove for my 5 year history. I can prove an overweight or obese status for many, many years. Hopefully it all works out!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
