What did you eat the first week on the REGULAR diet?

Recommended Posts

According to my diet sheet next Friday/Saturday I'm supposed to start eating regular foods again. Some things listed are deli meat, chicken/ham/tuna salad, lean tender meats and raw fruits and vegetables.

We're going out of town for the weekend and I'm freaking out about this. I'm afraid I'm going to get sick or something.

What did you guys eat the first regular week and did you have any problems?

Regular food? Not mushies?

I am on my 2nd day of regular food and I find that I am eating anything, just VERY smalls bites and chewing like crazy. It is a little stressful so I resort to mushies each day....

i eat a lot of grilled/braised chicken, veggie burgers (no roll) and morningstar farms 'chicken' products. i'll add a little potato or veggie but i always focus on eating the Protein first. i find dressings very useful to jazz anything up- low fat/sugar.

i do whole wheat bagel thins, toasted, when i am in the mood for bread but i only use the top or bottom. a little Peanut Butter or laughing cow... it does the trick.

i haven't touched red meat, Pasta, rice or bread yet and i might not. i can't imagine i would be able to tolerate it.

Only 2 weeks post op and back to regular food? Man the Docs that do these surgeries need to get their acts together. some but not all have you on liquids for 2 weeks and purees the 3rd week, mushies and babyfood the 4th and not start real food until the 5th week.

I just started real food and pretty much eat anything I want. just small bits and chew it till it's almost puree anyway. and swallow/eat real slow, that is the really hard thing. When I eat too fast its back up at you time. really sucks.

need my first fill then the fun should start and the reason to do this band thing. scheduled for the 1st hit on the 24th I am hoping for the best but almost every one takes at least 3 shots or more.

I would stick to the lean Proteins and if possible bring what you can with you. Canned chili, Soups. etc. Laughing cow cheeses.

Nothing wrong with apple sauce, FF puddings and other soft things if you are on the road and are afraid of getting stuck. Going away can be very stressful when eating plans are up in the air.

If you go out to eat stick to Soups.

Good Luck. It gets a bit easier.

I don't remember specifically what I ate--but I know it was Protein. (My doctor didn't have us reintroduce veggies until something like week 10.)

I didn't have any problem with any food until probably after my third or fourth fill.

Just take it slow. Small bites, chew carefully....you'll be fine :)

I know it makes me nervous but a friend of mine works for my surgeon and just got banded by him 8 months ago. She swears she had no problems and that all patients start eating again at week 3.

cottage cheese is a good one. Also, what works for me is to add unflavored Protein Powder to sugar free pudding. I use the Any whey Protein powder that you order online. It came within a few days when I ordered it.

You can make a creamed Soup with out the cream by steaming veggies until soft and blend them with a little broth in a blender.

And remember to cut your food in tiny pieces -- dont try to take a regular bite to chew a thousand times because there will not be room in your mouth to chew it as much as you need to.

Even though you can eat regular food now, it doesnt mean you have to -- especially since you will be away from everything familiar. Id stick with mushies and full liquids, myself.

I have no problem with that, I am sure it's just fine BUT my point is some Doc's are causing UN-NECESSARY mental pain and anguish by having patents follow some BS plan. for example what does it accomplish to make someone do a liquid diet BEFORE surgery? if the goal is to lose weight fast before the operation then a restricted diet of REGULAR food works just fine. If there is no problem to eat regular food 3 weeks after surgery why do some think we need to wait till the 5th week? or not even give you a plan at all? again it only makes life miserable and it sucks bad enough.

Same deal with fills. that is even more of a wild west scene seems to be what ever the doc thinks about it. there apparently is NO STANDARD procedure!

I think the docs aren't going to do anything different EVER unless one of the band suppliers does a definitive study and comes up with the best course of action to follow and highly recommends the docs follow it. I am sure they do it now for the actual band placement, but that is a small part of the big picture long term and overall.

Maybe the AMA needs to get involved as this is a relatively new thing only been approved since when the early 90's?

Maybe all banders should get together, draft and sign a petition and send it to the Band companies and the AMA. I dont know maybe they are working on it all ready.

Sure seems like a free for all out there and WE are the Guinea pigs.

sorry to hijack your thread, just venting.

what ever you eat, remember small, slow and chew chew chew! kinda sounds like a country song...

I agree. I am amazed at the different pre and post operative plans. I could not leave the hospital until I ate mushies and some people are still on liquids for weeks after. It really is amazing that there is no standard.

Yeah I know what you mean. It seems we are all on a different kind of plan. As a matter of fact I got one plan from the hospital dietician and a different plan from my surgeon but my surgeon MADE me see the dietician to get the darn diet plan. I had to pay an extra $125 for that. Crazy!

I'm sure you were told the liquid diet before surgery is to lower the glycogen levels in the liver. The more fat around the liver, the more chance there is of nicking it which leads to a lot of bleeding and complications.

Most Australiasian surgeons will stick to the 2 weeks liquid after surgery so you have a greater chance of your stomach healing fully - less contractions of the stomach - less movement, higher chance of safe healing and bedding in of the band. Then 2 weeks mushies, 2 weeks soft food for the same reasons....

I hope scrambled eggs are considered regular diet - I am so getting addicted to eggs & cottage cheese :cursing:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
