not motivated

Recommended Posts

I am just not. Banded on May 25th, and other than playing golf 2 times a week, my exercise is is non-existant! I just would rather do other things with my time. I feel like a failure when talking exercise. I have lost a total of 44 lbs as of yesterday. Any tips on getting motivated other than body image.

I was banded on May 7 - because I was so out-of-shape, I have started slowly, doing little things to help build up my activity level. Parking further away, window shopping, working more in the yard are some of things I have done to increase my activity level.

I also do exercises in my swim spa now up to about 30 minutes at a time 4-5 times a week, because I do have more energy.

I still have my computer time tho. lol

There were times when I was real gym rat that if I did'nt go to the gym I could'nt have dinner; and I always wanted dinner. Not saying that was the best mind set but it worked. I go swimming everyday and if I take a day or two off I can feel it. Muscles more tight back pain.

You have actually done quite well on your weight loss to have not been exercising! Just imagine what you would lose once you started getting active. I walk at least a mile a day and I can really tell when I skip a day. My back hurts now when I don't work out...it's strange because my back used to hurt when I did anything besides lay around. Well, I'm impressed with your weight loss and I look forward to when I get to 40lbs. + lost! :cursing:

I started looking at exercise like a part of my job...in other words the days that I work (which is 4-5 days a week) then I go to the gym. I don't have enough energy to go after work or else find excuses like I have to stop by the grocery store or have an appointment or need to run an errand so I go to the gym at 5 a.m. It is hard to get up that early but I am very proud of myself that I get up and get it done and over with in the morning. For some (like me), at first you have to start to make yourself do it and then it becomes part of your routine. I actually like going now. I know when I haven't been because I feel more tired, achy and so on.

Good luck...you are already doing a great job! Keep up the good work!

When I started the Couch to 5K program, I was suppose to work out on certain days, afterward I found that I made excuses not to work out so now I am back on a cross training program and I am scheduled to work out on Friday, Sunday and Tuesday. I get up early to do it and I cant put it off because it messes up my schedule. In my mind its Tuesday so I have to work out because it is written on a schedule. Very OCD but effective for me. :cursing:

I haven't been banded yet (september 7) but I have always exercised (sporadically for weeks here and there). Some motivators other then body image are things like - 1- you will have more energy day to day (after you get into it for a few days) 2- great stress reliever 3- strengthen muscles and bones so you have a strong body for when you are older 4- it helps your brain function better 5- brings the better mood out of you 6- cloths will fit better 7- while losing the weight from the band, you wont get as much loss/saggy skin 8- it makes you want to do more physically 9- it strenghtens your heart and lungs.

Even if you do a little at a time- as long as you move, you will get into it more. I personally really like this DVD- Walk Away The Pounds with Leslie Sansome. Its walking in your home at a fast pace but theres more then just walking in place. Its easy, its kinda fun and it works. You can start with 1 mile at a time (its only like 20 minutes). Just walk around your block a couple times. Or while watching TV, walk in place, jog in place, do some crunches or squats. Easier said then done. But just a few extra minutes a day will help a little! :cursing:

Good Luck! And btw, 44 pounds in less then 3 months sounds like your are doing AWESOME! Congratulations! I hope to be that successful! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
