Maintaining BMI Presurgery

Recommended Posts

Knocked 3 appts off today, 5 more to go. Not a slam dunk process that's for sure. My BMI came in @ 40.7 today which is on the line for lapband according to this facility. I was encouraged to start an exercise program now, Vitamins, increase h20 intake etc.

I'm wondering if my BMI creeps down, could I disqualiy myself. Surgery will take place sometime early October. I would just cry if I came up a 38 or 39 and was told no:scared2:

Not to be a downer but if your INS requires a BMI of 40+ and you drop down, then more and likely you will be disqualified for the surgery, but dont let that get you down my ins doesnt even cover the lap band and i have to pay out of pocket for it...Good luck

My doctor submits the weigh in from the first consult. My surgery had to be postponed and in the following 4 months I lost an additional 25 pounds. I still qualified for the surgery due to BMI but my insurance did not question the weight loss. From my first consult to surgery I lost 53 pounds. Many/most doctors require a presurgery weight loss of 5-10% of body weight.

Ask your doctor. I just went to a seminar on Wednesday night and they said they use your BMI from your very first appointment with them. They said that once they had that, if you wanted/could lose 40lbs before surgery, go for it. They said it didn't matter as long as they had that first BMI that qualified you. (I was sitting there thinking, well, heck, if I could lose 40lbs, I probably wouldn't be here for this seminar. lol!!!) But yeah, ask your surgeon.

BULL SHIT!!!!

I checked with my surgeon's office on more than one occasion to ensure that this was not true.

I went from a 55 BMI down to 39 in the 5 months leading up to surgery.

Check with your surgeon's office and don't take the word of any stranger including myself.

Preventing yourself from losing weight is retarded unless this is a very good reason.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
