Hey guys!

I'm scheduled to get banded Sept.2nd but I really want insurance to cover it. I have been battling with them literally for 3yrs. now and have decided to do a second sleep study to try and get a sleep apnea diagosis. Did anyone get a diagnosis in the DFW area that deep down really thought that they didn't have that problem. Please help, My husband does not support me spending $9900!

Thanks,

Miranda

I knew that I snored and was exhausted all the time, but it never occured to me that I had sleep apnea. My surgeon required that I get a sleep study and I am actually very glad that I did. I was diagnosed with sever sleep apnea and am now wearing using CPAP. Although it isn't the nicest looking or most comfortable thing to wear, it has made a HUGE difference in how I feel and how I function during the day.

The diagnosis helped me get insurance approval because my BMI was under 40. I had several co-morbidities, including the sleep apnea that helped me get approval. I get banded in four more days!

If you can get your PCP or surgeon to refer you to a sleep study, I would go for it. You have nothing to lose.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
