Pre-surgery Counseling Approval

Recommended Posts

Well I had my pre-surgery therapy session yesterday and came home so depressed that I wanted to eat myself into oblivion. How dare the Dr. tell me that I have "victim" issues. That being said, I have to go to counseling sessions before I can be approved for surgery. Imagine that! But now that I have had time to sleep on it, mull it over for awhile, and shed a few tears because I will have to wait. I have come to figure out that the surgery will not work if I don't find out what the real reasons are that I got myself where I am today. So my big question is......did anyone else have this issue and how did you get through it without beating yourself up with more food? I am not good at trying to analyze myself. So I really do need an impartial person's help to dig it out of me. Thanks for any and all encouragement.

Shannon

"Victim" issues? WTH does that mean? i mean every one everywhere has been a "victim" of something, but to say that's why we gained weight... I know why i gained weight it's because i ate and ate and ate with out regard to my health doesn't mean i have issues (even tho i do HA HA)

Good luck hope you get approved soon.

My son thinks it is because they want to get more money from my insurance company. But thanks for your replies. I wish I could get a new one, this is the one the Bariatriac Center sent me to and He won't approve me until I go to more sessions. $270 out of pocket plus what my insurance pays for his testing which I believe is around $800. I am not sure how much more it is going to cost out of pocket ;{

Go to another psych doctor that is familiar with weight loss surgery! Get the heck away from that person and get on with the life you want!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
