Hi, can someone tell me if there is a certain amount of pounds you have to be overweight before you can get the lap band?

It all depends on your surgeon and your insurance. Typically it is 100 pounds over "ideal" weight, whatever that means. It is usually based on your BMI, and your co-morbidities, if any.

Type BMI calculator on Yahoo! or so. And calculate your BMI, if your BMI is 40 or higher then you are a good candidate for the operation. If your BMI is 35 or so and you have health related issues from obesity you might qualify as well.
