Concerned about weight loss

Recommended Posts

I am on my pre op diet, which consists of 2 shakes and a low or no carb meal at night. I thought i was doing great on weight loss (10 lbs) and now i weigh myself and im up 3 today

What the heck!!! I hope the band helps me more with keeping the weight off. Im following the instructions and have been to the gym 3 times this week allready. Any advice would help.

I'm on a similar pre-op diet (2 more days!!!). 3 Protein Shakes, high Protein low carb. I can hve a small piece of lean meat and a light salad for dinner and I haven't lost a single pound in over a week... actually this morning it was up 2. I haven't gone off plan once so I know it's not me. All I can think is I'm taking in 800 or less calories a day at the moment... may be too few for my body to lose on. OR, the chicken broth I've been enjoying as a fake meal has too much sodium and I'm retaining water! But I had read a lot of people not losing on their liquid pre-ops so I'm not freaking out yet!

The pre-op diet isn't so much about losing weight as it is shrinking the fat around your liver. Weight loss just happens to be a wonderful side effect of it for most people.

You're doing fine :) You'll get through this and get your band and be on your way!

Funny I wrote about this yesterday as well and wonder if the band will work but i gotta stay positive and stop second guessing...just because i havent seen lbs drop doesnt mean my clothes dont fit better. it's hard to stay positive i know but i gotta have faith if it has worked for thousands of people what makes it not work for me? only I can determaine if it will work and that is what it all comes down to.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
