I am 2 days post op. I have been on Clear Liquids for 3 days now, and full liquids for 5 days preop. Today i got on the scale and found that i had gained three and a half pounds which put me at the weight i was when i had my first consult with the surgeon exactly 1 week ago. I am getting very discouraged. Any body experience weigh gain? I had initially lost 3 and 1/2 pounds when i first started the full liquid diet.< /p>

You have just put yourself and your body through a major ordeal. It takes a while, and not to mention the fluids they give you, the amount of Fluid you are retaining...and albiet, the weight will come off...it is not instantaneous. Hang in there. Focus on healing and not so much the scale. It will happen, I promise :)

I gained like 7 the day I was in the hospital having surgery...all from the IV fluids. Give it a few days, it should come off! Don't get discouraged yet! You've got a long way to go!

Good luck!

I came home from the hospital having gained 10 lbs. Hang in there -- the Fluid weight should go away soon.

You're only 2 days post op and you're 'getting discouraged'? Change the mindset because if you are so easily discouraged, how will you make it through the next few months until you hit your sweet spot...or the next year...or the rest of your life? :)

Don't stress! This happens sometimes. You won't start seriously losing weight until after you get to restriction. Try to relax during this "healing" phase and just follow your diet and don't stress about the number on the scale (I know. . easier said than done, right?!).

It might make you feel better to know that I gained 5 pounds during "Bandster Hell" (i.e. before I got to restriction). Guess what? I lost that 5 and a whole lot more after that.

The weight will come off, it just takes some time to get there. You have a truly amazing year in front of you to look forward to! BTW, if you haven't taken before photos and your measurements, be sure to do that right away! You'll want them later.

Best wishes for your success,

Catherine

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
