Swimming, taking a bath?

Recommended Posts

How long did you doctor tell you to wait post-op before you could take a bath or go swimming again? I would love nothing better than to go take a long bath right now!

My doctor told me to wait 2 weeks before taking a bath or swimming. But be sure to check with your doc before you dive in.

Me too but I was told to wait until the incisions close up. I hate, hate, hate having to shave my legs in the shower:(

At least you can still shave i don't have my band yet and shaving is such an event i just quit all together...so cant wait to lose weight so i wont look like a hairy dog anymore... :)

My post op instructions were not to swim or take a bath for 6 weeks. Blah! My incision has closed nicely since July 21. Not quite sure about why the wait for the bathing but the swimming is because the cut through my abdominal muscles. They need time to heal. Oh, and the stitches....they absorb with in 2-4 weeks, depending on what kind they used sub-cuticular.

I did not have sutures or staples. I was glued. My Dr ok'd me to swim after 2 weeks. I would chk with your Dr. b4 hand just to make sure. Good luck!

Mine said 6 weeks before swimming because the skin pickles when you're in the Water for an extended period of time, even if it isn't as obvious as it is on the fingertips, which can allow for absorption of bacteria.

You probably still have some sutures. They usually put them inside and the glue on the outside:) I thought the same thing last time I had surgery and then a few weeks later this wormy looking thing started coming out of my stomach. Freaked me out until the doc said they suture inside.

Ditto what Kimmy wrote. I also was told by my surgeon to wait six weeks before swimming and bathing.

i was able to shower 2 days after surgery.

dr said just not to let the Water flow directly on the incisions and to daub that area dry.

also to apply some antibiotic, ie neosporin, to the incisions.

worked for me and i had no problems at all.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
