Lap Band after having Gastric Bypass

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering if anyone on here has ever had the lap band surgery performed after having the Gastric Bypass procedure? I had the Gastric Bypass many years ago. I lost a lot of weight and have since put a lot of it back on again. Does anyone know if Kaiser covers the lap band?

Thanks,

Nikki

I don't think a revision would typically go from bypass to lapband . That a surgeon would probably have to answer

That's definitely something to call a surgeon and talk to them about. I just can't imagine going from GB to LB.

I have heard a surgeon say that before I a seminar I went to in San Diego... He was referring to the super morbidly obese patients that he couldnt band right away. He said that he would do a bypass on them to get some of the weight off then he would go back and do a band to keep the weight off and aide in the rest of their weight loss.

I have read on line several instances where people have had lapband after bypass. In regards to insurance call you carrier and ask them. Each employer has their own policy and that determines what is covered.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
