How easy is it to stretch the pouch?

Recommended Posts

Hi, all!!

First. congrats to all who are starting their journey to a new life, and congrats to all of you who have had great success with the band!!! I am a frequent visitor to this site, and I find it very informative and inspiring!

I am 5 weeks post op. I don't have any pain, and I am adjusting to my new lifestyle. I find it very difficult to eat well and not do intense workouts, as my doc has told me to wait until week 7 to go back fully. I am trying to hang in there for a couple of more weeks. I have done a lot of walking, but I can't seem to get into it/feel motivated like I do with my aerobics classes :(

Anyway, I am concerned about how easy it is to stretch the pouch during this time. This is my second week on solid foods. Some days I feel like I have restriction, other days I can really eat a lot (I know this is to be expected, though, since I haven't had a fill). I have had a 4-5 stuck episodes when I eat too big of a bite (I sometimes forget the band is there!) It hasn't been too bad, it is over in a matter of a minute or so..The food eventually goes down. I am expecting that it will be a lot worse when I get my fills, so I a just thinking of this period as practice...

I just get a little bit paranoid sometimes that I will stretch it out when I end up overeating..Is it very easy to do?

Thanks everyone!!!

My PA that does my fills said it would take continious overeating to stretch the pouch, but I am interested to see what others have to say.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
