Need help, feel like a failure....

Recommended Posts

This is off subject, but I just wanted to mention 'Stomaphyx' because this is a new procedure that can shrink the pouch back down after RNY (when it has been stretched out). I heard about it on 'The Doctors' TV show, but if you google it, you can find out a lot more info. I'm not recommending it or anything, but just wanted to make you aware of it since I had never heard of it before seeing it on 'The Doctors'.

That freaked me out to read that the pouch can be stretched out. I feel discomfort when i'm getting full. Would we feel more discomfort if it is stretching?

First of all..good for you for using this forum to express your reality. Okay, so you've gotten off track. You still have 25 pounds off...and for that, you should feel proud of yourself. Secondly, we all have a love affair with food. If we didn't, we wouldn't have had this surgery and be dealing with being overweight. It's not easy to change that relationship. I am 5 months post op and am down 65 pounds. But let me tell you...I am successful only because, I was in a life or death situation medically and I had a choice to make. I battle with my desire for food daily. But I know that my body and my family deserve better. You can do this. Just regroup. Get back on the pre op diet for a few weeks...talk to your doctor and get yourself moving. Just know that you never need to feel like a failure around this group! Ever!

to all who have posted here... well said/written. b9409 You've had some tough love here and there have been some softer replies all with the intent to assist you through some tough times. We all are human and need help now and again. The time is to take some of the advice that has been given, look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that you are not so bad afterall. You've fallen off the wagon, now get back on, call your doctor, nutrtionist, psychologist whomever/whatever you have available to you and get moving back in the right direction. There will be a day soon enough when someone will benefit from your advice and there will come a time when hopefully you will like yourself.

After all, if you were so horrible would we all be here for you?

I think not. So come on, be angry with yourself for a short time (time is up) start making those appointments and jump back into life!

let us know how you are doing. :blushing:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
