where do i start?...

Recommended Posts

I am so confused as to why my doctor is telling me that I cannot have fruit, Pasta, bread, potatoes, rice, or even Cereal like oatmeal. I have a different doctor that does my fills than the one that did my surgery, and in a different state, too. Before I had the surgery, I was given a list of tons of healthy stuff I could eat after the surgery that included all that I mentioned above. Since I could not travel 8 hours everytime I needed a fill, I had to get a new doc. The Lap-Band® package my new doc gave me had a web site that I could go to for meal ideas and THEY have recipes with fruits in them. What is going on here? Do I need to find another doc?.... again?

The new Dr's advice does seem rather strange. There is nothing wrong with fruit or oatmeal. Lots of bandsters struggle with bread , rice and Pasta so they can be a no no.

It could be that your new Dr has a low carb philosophy which your old Dr didn't, but even with low carb i can see nothing wrong with eating oats.

That's not very usual advice - low carb would be the explanation i'd guess, but even then, you need some of those foods.

Believe me, I've just taken the first dose of Picolax in preparation for a colonoscopy tomorrow, and I'm sitting here waiting for all hell to break loose. I have very problematic bowels and I would NEVER give up those fibrous foods. Its just not healthy, end of story.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
