August Rush in bandland!

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to be happy with the fact that I lost the 2 pounds that I had gained, but I'm still stuck on the same number. At least that number starts with a 2.

Congratulations to all of those that have been recently banded.

Now, I've got to have a chat tonight with my hubby about going to the gym. I'm a stay at home mom that works from home on the side, and I feel bad about asking him to watch our kids when he gets home from working. I have to be able to get to the gym though. I'm very tempted to order the p90x videos. Just worried that I wouldn't be able to do them.

has anyone had any lightheadedness since surgery. I can't seem to shake it.

I haven't, but make sure you are getting enough fluids and calories each day, it's summer and we need more liquids! If it doesn't go away, I would call your doctor and run it by them! Good luck!

So after surgery, how much weight have you lost? I don't have kids to chase, but I have a dog I can. lol

I've lost about 9lbs since surgery last week, but that includes the 5.5lbs I gained after surgery. I didn't start losing the weight until this week when my body started to recover. Your body is different and may be recovering more slowly, and it's holding on to whatever you give it, it thinks you are starving it. I think Amanda gave me the same advice because I was frustrated too, not seeing a change after you go through surgery is stressful. Adding the extra calories is what made me start losing and now I get between 900-1000 a day, and I walk every day for 30-45 minutes. I have a gym membership, but I'm not ready for that yet!

I can't figure this out. Everyone seems to be losing weight right after surgery. I had mine on 8/10 and haven't lost any since the surgery. I am trying so hard to get calories in.

How are ya'll losing the weight so quickly? I am really starting to get depressed. HELP!

Well I for one am counting and loging every thing I eat! Staying below 1200 calories, and started walking 15 to 20 minutes every morning. I must say every other day a pound rolls off!

All of my weight loss has been since surgery, I was self-pay, so I had no pre-surgery diet. Right now I am really dieting! I know its only for three more weeks, when I get my first fill. I think with just the band on and no fill, I'm not quite as hungry as before, then once I get a fill, it should be a little less and so on, and so on. I am also walking every day for at least 20 min. at a fast pace! Stoking that old fire in the metabolic furnice!

Thank you for all the advise. I am going to start walking now and will write everything down that I eat. That way I can keep more accurate track of how many calories I am eating. Hopefully I will start to see some weight loss!

THANKS!!

I can't find those at all where I live at. I can't find the clear fruit flavored Isopure drinks either.

I don't care for the Isopure RTDs, but love the Cytomax ones. I ordered a case of them from Amazon.< /p>

I'm a little bummed today. The weight loss is slowing and I'm starting to feel hunger....like A LOT of hunger. I feel like I'm still dieting and that I don't have this tool.

Last night was a friend's dinner party and I had chicken Tortilla Soup minus everything but the broth and a tiny bit of salad. My surgeon has me on 3 weeks of post op shakes. I am only one week out. I wanted to EAT! Had some wine with dinner too and didn't need those empty calories.

I hear some of you eating anything you want, and some of you just having Clear liquids, some on mushies, it's like a crap shoot. Whatever your particular surgeon says is what you do.

I want to eat cause some of you can eat and I'm getting hungry. I'm afraid to eat cause I'm one week out and told not to do anything but shakes.

I think this is that Bandster Hell thing. I'm going a little crazy with it! Not happy

Jen...you were banded on the same day as me and we're down 17lbs! You are doing great! Every doctor's post op seems to be different and it may just be that they are trying to prepare us for the long road, not the quick hike. It's a tool and until you are like at fill #3, you won't have the restriction that it's designed for (or so I have read from other posts). So you slipped, just start over tomorrow, it's another day! I have had mashed potatoes and yogurt with no problem because I have no restriction yet, today I had cream of chicken soup with herbs and it was very good. Perhaps you could contact your doctor and see if you can add a little blended foods into your diet so that you can get something in your stomach other than a shake. Believe me, I hate my shakes still...I'm sooo over them, but it's important that we get the fluids and the Protein in too! Good luck hon and keep your chin up, we'll get through these weeks before we know it!

Jen, don't beat yourself up. I think you will be fine. If I had to stay on a liquid diet as long as alot of you i would probably be beating my head against a wall! Not that I would ever advise anything over the specific plan your surgeon has given you but come on...you had some broth and SALAD!! Remember when we used to beat ourselves up over devouring a whole pint of Ben & Jerry's??? I had my surgery on Monday and today I am on normal food already...just still going with the soft stuff to be on the safe side. Talk to your surgeon and I'm sure he will give you some alternatives. Hang in there girl!!!

Thanks you two. I am in a better mindset today. I did have 1/2 a cup of stroganoff and LOVED It! However, back on shakes today. I think I will call the doc and just see. I mean it all went down fine and I'm still following the plan....just early:) Of course, I don't want to cause problems for the newly in place tool. I think in a few years the docs will have a more uniform way of dealing with this.

Maybe that will make it easier....either way back to hunger and dealing with it best I can!

One week post op and I am feeling so much better! Was having difficulty going back to work and feeling really out of it. Finally stopped taking pain meds 3 days ago and now I am doing great! Started soft foods/ mushies stage today. Had some cream of mushroom Soup for lunch and I really enjoyed it, went down pretty smooth. The transformation begins, down 16 lbs!

Jen, stop stressing you'll be fine.

As others have said it seems these docs have different approaches I'm sure based on their experiences and erring on the side of caution.

The not eating is to give your stomach pouch time to heal and the swelling go down. If you felt fine and ate a little off plan but took your time and did not have any repercussions I think you should put it to rest and move on.

I had my pre-op yesterday and my Dr told me to do liquids for 4 more days and then I can move on to mushies. Fortunately, I'm not hungry but I'm going to have a Chobani greek yogurt now and drink some Water and keep it moving. On Wednesday I'm gonna broil up some flounder with butter & garlic and some mushie broccoli and enjoy myself as I lose, lose, lose. I'm already so happy.

We have to follow our Drs instructions but we also need to get to know our own bands and what we can and cannot tolerate.

As we see here there are a lot of different perspectives on the same thing.

Since I added mushey food my weight loss has stopped. I put on 3 lbs. I'm trying not to stress about it. I see the doc for my first post-op on thursday so I'm going to ask him about it.

Today is post op day 8 and I actually am beginning to feel normal, well, as normal as possilbe haha. I'm not near as hungry today either. Until today I have been starving. I mean it actually hurt, I was so hungry. I'm a little hungry today but it's tolerable, nothing like it has been. I will be on full liquids until day 14. Then I see a nutritionist and she will tell me what I can advance too. I take 60 mg of Prozac everyday and would never dream of missing more than one day. The only day I missed was my day of surgery. I take 3 20mg pills and I have had no trouble taking them. In fact, I've not had trouble swallowing anything. I take a lot of meds and they gone down just fine. Has anybody found any yogart that tastes good and is low in carbs?? I'm not crazy about yogart but I know its good for me but I dont want to use up my carbs for something I'm not crazy about.

Nancy

Surgery date 8/13/2010

Current weight 216.5

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
