I have just started the process of getting apporved by my insurance company for Lap Band Surgery. I had my labs done on friday and I see the nurtitionist this thursday. Psych and Surgeon appt this week. I guess I am just scared that I will not be approved. My BMI is 44 and I do have co-morbidities including high blood pressure, being on 2 meds with fair control, fibromyalgia (not sure if this counts) and poor pain control related to my fibro. I have gastric reflux and was in the hospital in February for a suspected heart attack, but that was proven to be gastric reflux. I remain on medication for that...Just wondering if anyone has any experience with BC/BS. When I called my rep about benefits, he stated that the Lap Band procedure was covered along with the surgeon that I have chosen to use, along with the Psych consult...just nervously hurrying up and waiting...It seems like once I made my mind up now I can hardly wait!

I'm pretty sure you're going to be approved Jillian, but doubts are totally normal! I will be praying for you!

My family has BC/BS and they had no issues getting approved. I have Tricare Prim, so I'm not familiar with BC/BS myself.

I will be praying for you too. We have a Christian Bandster thread if you want to copy and paste your message there too. I was self pay so I do not know about the insurance but I am sure that God hears our prayers. Keep us posted.

Jillian ... my prayers are with you. I am in the preliminary stages of getting approved and setting a date for my surgery. I know the procedure and doctor are covered by BCBS (PPO) but I'm worried about passing the psych exam and getting approved. It took me 2yrs to decide to do this and now that I'm ready to get it done I just hope everything works in my favor. I wish you all the best as you begin your journey and maybe I'll see you again in the threads once we're both banded!

I am also with BCBS & they approved my surgery. It took them right at two weeks. I have Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol & sleep Apnea. They are such a wonderful insurance group. I dont see any problem with you getting approved myself. Girl, i was calling BCBS every day after it was submitted to them from my doctor to make sure they received everything & to make sure evrything was right. They were so friendly & were very understanding about me calling so often. They answered every question i had & even told me stuff that i hadn't even thought of. Dont worry, it will get approved & i dont know about you but i cried when they told me. They were very touched! Just hang in there. My surgery is scheduled for August 27,2010.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
