Had my first appt. with Nutritionist--excited

Recommended Posts

I was so nervous seeing the nutritionist because I don't eat a lot of veggies because I don't like them. She was so understanding and said over the next three months my goal should be to gradually change my eating habits to reflect what I'll need to do after being banded. She also said to gradually increase my exercising. Gave me no specific weight loss goals, just try to eat healthier. I have to write everything I eat down, what times I ate, what I ate, etc. My next appointment with her is Sept. 1st, right before I go on a week-long cruise--that should be interesting. My next appointment with the surgeon is October 6th, after which they'll submit my papers to insurance. I really hope I can be banded sometime in November. Have so many appointments to go to, but they'll all be done by the October 6th appointment with the surgeon.

First off White or Red? Anyway. I went on a cruise preband and I actually lost weight. My mother and I would either go on an excursion and do a lot of walking or if we were on ship get up early and go swimming before Breakfast. Also we were on an enormous ship and got a lot of walking in just getting to the restaurants. At the buffets you choose how much food you want. At breakfast you can even order egg whites instead of regular eggs. At the ship's restaurants they have several courses but the serving sizes are not that large. You can pick and choose how many courses you want. FYI when we ordered ice cream for dessert (very decident home made stuff) each "scoop" was ping pong ball size. So you can get a taste without over doing it.

Go Rangers!!

I hate most vegetables with a passion and lost 145 pounds in the past 10 months. Vegetables taste like dirty feet and are highly overrated. There are plenty of fat people here that love veggies and look what good they did for them.

Increase your exercise and decrease your eating and you'll do fine. Cruises are about relaxing. Use the time you would have used at the buffet spending quality time with family and friends.

Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
