My sister made a delicious Pulled Pork in the slow cooker. It was so good and the meat was so soft and tender. I had a small portion (The others had it on hero bread.) with half of a baked potato. I could not imagine having any problems with the consistency of this meal. I did not overeat or chew too little. But as soon as the last spoonful went in I started sliming and had to bring it up.

Other than some deli ham, I can not get pork to agree with my band. I feel so bad, my sister has tried to make nice band-friendly food for me and then I had to go "get sick"

Should I keep trying it on and off? That is one thing I hate: the inconsistency. One day chicken works, the next not so. But, Pork seems to be a no no.

Any advice/opinions/comments?

I am learning that there are some things...and meats are high on the list...of which that one last bite can be disastrous. I was told that my pouch can hold everything in a half cup scoop...but find that with meat I have to cut it down further. Pulled pork can be kinda stringy even when tender so you might have had a problem with that. All pork can be stringy... and we don't notice because it never was a problem pre-band. Another thing wqith pork...according to the nutritionist...is that even the best cuts can trigger inflammation so it you are sensitive to it the little bit of inflammation could cause sudden restriction. The pork people deny this of course and I'm not going to stop eating it but I am more careful since I was told that with RA I should limit it.

It sounds to me that the pork was okay for you....you just took one bite too many!! That is why your last bite came back up. I was warned that you will know when you eat one bite too many! Otherwise, I think that you would not have been able to eat any of it....

Thanks all!

It was stringy, but oh, was it good! I had such a small amount. I will talk to PA on my next visit, but as soon as I tell her it came up, she won't give me a fill.:)

Just gotta keep trying new things.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
