One More ?-- Is it normal to be so dizzy?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Been asking a lot of questions here today and getting some really helpful answers. The last thing that's causing me a major concern is I am EXTREMELY dizzy all the time. I was banded 4 days ago, I'm on the all liquid diet so I'm not sure if It's just a matter of not getting enough calories or is something I should be concerned about. Taking my meds or not doesn't really seem to make a difference in terms of the dizziness, but If I try to even just SIT UP for a few hours I have to sleep. It's driving me insane! I know that I need to rest, but I can't sleep ALL THE TIME, and i cant even focus my eyes enough to read any of the great books I bought for recovery. I will be calling my doc first thing tomorrow but wonder if you guys have any idea why that would be happening or anything that might help?

Dehydration, low blood pressure, leftover anesthesia, plus pain meds are all possible causes of what you describe. Also low blood sugar. Drink more (especially calories), rest, and get up slowly when you change position.

Best wishes,

Mimi

UGH, any time I've had anesthesia I have severe after effects. Even when I just had laughing gas for dental work. I'm dizzy and nauseous for days afterwards. I couldn't drive even after I went off the pain meds from my last surgery, just because I was car sick all the time! It's awful. Just keep hydrated and make sure you're getting all your Protein. Take it easy and allow yourself time to heal.

Good luck!

I am so glad you brought this up. I have not been banded yet. It's in the works in the early stages. This is something I was going to ask at the seminar. Please let me know. I believe it maybe from the anesthia or not enough Protein. I am afaid I will get too weak in the begining. <3

Hi Wendy Ann,

I actually called the nurses first thing yesterday morning, and the suggested (since I'm not in very much pain at all) that I switch to taking tylenol during the day and only take the stronger prescribed pain meds at night and--viola, no dizziness! Tylenol does not completely eliminate the pain for me, but it is very very very slight and totally manageable (and way better than feeling dizzy). In fact, I'm less then a week out and I'll probably hit up the mall today I'm feeling so good! You will definitely need a lot of rest at first, but I wouldn't be too worried :(

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
