Debbie72001 0 Posted August 7, 2010 Hi Everyone: I had my surgery on August 2nd. I opted out of the narcotics and have not had any pain meds for a few days. The pain can be bad at times. I think it is mostly gas. I am not hungry but the lack of calories is making me sick and dizzy. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I am drinking two slimfast shakes (low carb) and trying some oatmeal and cream of wheat. I am going back to work Monday and can't imagine working like this let alone driving to work. I went to the store yesterday and had to leave because I was so tired. So not like me not to want to shop. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I also know I have to get more Water in but there is no room. Thank you. Debbie
monkeymama 0 Posted August 7, 2010 Think protein- look for shakes with high Protein or add some Protein Powder to the slimfast ones. Protein shooters, egg drop Soup was great for me (strained). What type of diet are you on?
malinda1229 1 Posted August 7, 2010 DITTO Protein Protein Protein!! at that stage I was living on canned sardines, canned tunna, canned chicken, canned crab meat, canned salmon.....anything that was an animal that was canned!! (oh and egg salad!!) High in protein...breakes up easy with a fork so great for that mushy stage. Now here come the most important part..mix with lime or lemon juice may be a teaspoon of mayo...open up that spice cabinet 5 spice powder or curry is great on canned chicken...dill with salmon and lime juice, tuna with oil and balsamic vinegar...crab with lemon and dry mustard....experiment with a fork full of the meat and dab some spice to give it a try. Have fun creating different combos!
vlp1968 83 Posted August 7, 2010 I agree with the protien. I don't know is slimfast has enough. I drink EAS carb control. You can get it at Walmart.< /p>
Rescue3Chick 0 Posted August 8, 2010 Look into getting OPT-FAST. My surgon sold it. This juice box has all the nutients that banded patients need. You can have up to 4 per day. (however, i found that more the 2 rough!) Egg Drop Soup, chicken broth, Mashed potatoes (decently thin) became my BEST FRIEND! Jello, strained milky Soups (lobster bisque) with some added milk make you feel like you are getting something into your stomach. You really should be having any "soft solids" until your first check up (maybe a week after surgery). Egg salad, mushed tuna fish, crab meat, white non oily fish, dark meat chicken... mush mush mush everything!!!
jensmallwood 0 Posted August 8, 2010 How much are you able to drink/eat? It sounds like you are not even able to hold much liquid- is that right? (you said you have no more room for more water.) I'd add at LEAST one more shake to your diet. Those things are what, 150 calories, tops? During the liquid/mushy stage you don't have to restrict that so much (in my opinion.) You might also try to add some vanilla greek yogurt. 110-150 calories- 14-17 g of Protein. And it'll give you some carbs- which will help the dizzy feeling go away (your brain needs some carbs.)
