comparing band date to lbs lost

i should start by saying i regret this stupid band and wish i had just started some routine/lifestyle change.

on occasions, like when i weigh myself i start to think maybe it was worth it and im just feeling discouraged.

then i come on here and see people who were banded the same week as me (july 18th- july 24th) and see they are loosing so much weight!

ive lost about 13lbs but im seeing people loosing much more!

of course everyone's body is different but not for nothing, im 22 yrs old and was always told my metabolism should be like a speeding bullet. so why is it that 40 yr olds are loosing weight faster than me? :redface:

I know exactly how you feel, but actually, you are doing a lot better than me. I was banded on may 24th and to date have only lost 8 lbs. I am very discouraged! I have had 2 fills and have not felt any different after the surgery. I think what makes it worse is that before the surgery I was losing weight quicker. I go for my 3rd fill on Mon and am hoping it helps. I am hungry all the time! I have been exercising about 3 times a week and should be doing a lot more. I just hope that this band helps me soon.

When I went for a fill and told my doc I felt like I was losing to slowly he looked at me and said "When was the last time you lost this much weight in this amount of time?"

Who cares who lost more- you just lost 13 lbs in less than two weeks....

plus its really not all about the scale- measure your waist- buy an article of clothing 2 sizes too small and try it on every week- it is amazing how sometimes the scale isn't moving but those pants are getting closer and closer to buttoning....

Many people don't lose much at first. Until you heal from surgery and get a couple fills you should try not to be too hard on yourself. If people lose weight during this time it is probably because of the diet alone. Some lose very well for a short time on extreme diets. Some lose a lot of Water weight. I am trying to lose steadily and a little slower than many people. Lifestyle changes are slower than extreme diets but last longer. It isn't how fast you can get the weight off, it's how you will maintain it. A slower loss may mean that you are learning long term habits, instead of dieting in a way that will bore you after a few months.

I clicked on this post because even the title disgusted me - "comparing." WOW - SO not a way to go about this journey! Yes, everyone is different...for one, you just had the major surgery - you are still healing, your body's still figuring out what the hell is going on, etc. If you want to increase your weight loss, you've got to be honest about other things - how many calories are you getting in a day? How many are you getting out (exercise)? How much Protein are you getting? I'm seven months out and down 69 pounds - but over the last two months I've only lost 12 pounds. Would I say that the last two months were a failure? Heck no! The way I see it? The scale is still going DOWN - for me AND you - smile at that :party:

I agree....I was banded what 5 days after you and I am so excited about the possiblities that I don't even have the time to compare myself to others. It sounds like you might have come into the commitment without truly understanding how it would work. These boards should help with that. Go to the boards where people are celebrating 100+ lb loss and you will see that slow and steady ends up winning this race.

i also felt the same way. give it time. im at 8months with 56lbs lost. i didnt notice the weight coming off till 2mo. later. i kept the positive out look of it all and said to myself "Look at least your not gaining weight anymore" i kept telling myself this and im down now 56lbs. ...

First and foremost, you mention a lifestyle change/routine. That is exactly what the band helps you form; your own healthy lifestyle with healthy routines to help you lose/maintain your weight.

You're only 2 weeks out, and you've lost 13lbs. That is a great loss! Do you remember the last time you've lost 13lbs and kept it off? Also keep in mind that you're still healing. Right now you need to focus on allowing you body to heal properly.

The point is, you can't compare yourself to others. Some lose faster, some lose slowly, but we all get to the same end point eventually. Keep in mind people with a lot more to lose often lose quicker, but in the end it all evens out.

I started weighing myself each day, about 10 times a day, and I can say it's not a healthy habit. Stop getting on the scale each day if it's something you do. I only now weigh myself on Sundays, which is my rest day from exercising. The scale is not the only way to measure success. Measure yourself: waist, hips, arms, etc. and compare in the measurements in a few weeks. Look at how your clothes are fitting.

Good luck with your journey and remember yours is entirely your own. You make of it what you want it to be. Exercise, eat right, and get your fills when you need them (when that time comes) and you'll be successful. There's always someone here to help you if you hit a roadblock though. :thumbup:

Haven't been banded yet... but can mention that people with MORE weight to lose tend to lose more at first before evening out... if you're someone who has a BMI near 50 and you suddenly drop calories it's more dramatic and you'll lose a lot initially. That could be part of what you're seeing...

HAHA! I have a whole closet full of clothes that don't fit in SEVERAL sizes!!! :-)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
