1st post band emotional breakdown

Recommended Posts

Just had surgery on Aug 3rd and had my first breakdown, the surgery went well but i had a lot more pain then I thought I would but the pain is getting better every day now its just everything else thats going on with my body. Im super tired all the time, im hot and then minutes later im cold, i still have trouble taking a deep breath because my port is located right underneath my left rib cage. Im having trouble getting in the required Fluid intake and Im getting sick of the Protein Shakes already. I need to be on pureed foods yet for another week and a half and im not feeling hungry yet at all but I just miss regular food, even a salad!!! Im staying with my parent for a couple weeks after surgery and I feel like my mom is becoming too overbearing, I am ready to just go back to my own apt and take care of my self and just get some breathing room from my mom but im afraid to hurt her feelings because she had just done soo much for me. I feel like this is going to be the first of many breakdowns as I go through this process but I just hope that it is normal. Sorry this is soo long I just needed to vent to people that know what Im going through!!!

Katy--- Don't worry... the first few weeks are an emotional roller coaster but I promise it does get better.

For fluids my friend taught me a trick to get a 1oz medicine cup and drink something from it every fifteen minutes- helped a lot in those first few days to make sure I was drinking and it occupied my mind a bit.

Maybe try talking a walk to get away from the parents.... and ask your mom how she would feel if you went home- spin it like you don't want to be a bother and feel strong enough to go....

I hope you feel better soon- all those drugs should be out of your system soon and the breathing should get better as the trauma from the tube that was stuck down your throat heals.

Let the meds run through. I too was very weepy/angry/moody for a while right after too. There is a degree of mourning of the old ways. I am almost a year out and still get annoyed that I had to resort to this to cope with my addiction. I am very happy and am teetering on 50 lbs gone though. The roller coaster gets better and will eventually go away.

I think the build up before is so overwhelming (doctors, insurance, etc) that there is bound to be a let down once it is done. You will be very happy when a mushy egg or baked riccota comes along.

Keep the faith and know that it will pass. Mom means well, but I know it can be overbearing:ohmy:. Perhaps a few more days and she will see you are ok on your own.

Best of luck

Hey, I was exactly where you were a few days ago. Im one week post op now and feeling better...hungry but better...I would reccomend staying with your mom at least for a couple more days. If you are in a good bit of pain still you really need all the help you can get. in a few more days you will start feeling better and your emotions may still be crazy but you probably can tolerate your mom better. I was alone most of the day until my husband got home from work and I didnt like being alone everyday all day feeling like crap and than thinking about food. Like everyone said it does get better sometimes it takes a few more days than expected!! It can be tough but we have all been through it too!

I had mood swings off and on for the first month following surgery. I had tearful episodes when there was no reason. It only lasted a day or so and then got better. I think it was both let down from all the hype and anxiety before surgery and the stress, both physical and mental, of the surgery itself.

I am 4 months out now and down 60 pounds. I feel great and am so glad I did this!!!!!!!!!!

Hang in there, everyday gets better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
