Hernia after surgery?

Recommended Posts

How is everyone doing? And the weight loss?

Anyone develop a hernia after surgery? if so, how was the issue addressed--any suggestions? I was banded in feb 2010. I had the single incision surgery. I am now up to 5cc's sometimes i am starving and do not understand why? Last month when i had a 2cc fill, after i left te hospital i had to return because i could not hold anything down. I did the sip of Water test, but after that....

thanks.

I haven't had a hernia, but I have heard of people who have--they generally had to have another surgery to repair it, as far as I know.

I'm assuming that you have a 10 or 14cc band, correct? My surgeon's office told me that most people don't really get to their ideal fill level until their band is 1/2 to 3/4 full. For a 10cc band, that's 5-7.5ccs; 7-10.5ccs for a 14cc band. I'm at around 6.75ccs in my 10cc band and could probably use another .25 or so.

Fills aren't a science, they're an art, and each person's best fill level is different. You'd be amazed at how much difference you can feel with even a .25cc or smaller top-off! Hang in there and keep getting your band fine-tuned until it's just right for you!

ETA: Also, I know of some people who are approaching the 10cc fill level on their band. Some people just require more saline!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
