Meal guidance sought from those non-newbies

Recommended Posts

Please...please please... could someone give me a sample daily menu of theirs? With quantities included?

I am really trying to figure out how to get enough Protein, without a lot of fat, into two or three SMALL meals per day.

And also, anyone know how much fat is too much fat in one day?

Ok, I can't give you portion sizes, but I can give you a list of high protien foods.

Beans (not green)

refried

black

pinto

etc

Fish

chicken

Turkey

Canned tuna

cheese

You can aloso make one dish meals that contain bean, meat and cheese, this will give you a huge amount of protien with few calories and fat:rolleyes:

Congrats on getting your band! As far as a daily diet - it goes something like this.

Morning - Protein shake (210 calories, skim milk with scoop of choc. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury powder)

lunch - 3-4 oz cottage cheese, 1/2 sandwich (toasted) or 3-4 oz of meat/chicken/fish with or w/o cheese

Mid-afternoon snack - 6 oz yogurt w/homemade granola (Kashi Cereal, choc. chips, brickle bits, peanuts, pecans)

Supper - 4 oz fish or chicken or red meat, pc of fruit or veggies (3 oz), piece of cheese (my vice)

Evening - Protein Shake (unflavored Unjury with Crystal Light lemonade)

I'm not big on fruits and especially not veggies (at least the green ones), but I try and get some in when I can.

This is a good day for me. I usually aim for around 1500 calories a day and exercise 5-6x/week for at least 30 minutes.

I concentrate on getting enough Protein, watching my fat intake and avoid refined carbs if I can. However, if I do want a snack I keep flavored rice cakes, or the 100 calorie snack packs or 100 calories popcorn bags in the house so at least I won't go apesh*t and grab the ice cream!

Thank you Emjay! That is exactly what I was looking for. They told me to stick to 1000 calories right now - I am 10 days post op. Your weight loss rate was really great! I hope I can achieve something like that as well. I am NOT messing around with this!!

My daily diet is very consistant, here's a typical day:

Breakfast- 1 protien shake (EAS reduced carb) after a 40 minute workout.

Lunch: 1 small can of tuna with 1Tbl. low fat mayo and 3 Kavili crackers (10 carbs and 50 cals for the crackers)

Snack- 1 snack pack of cottage cheese and 1/2c blueberries (berries are low in carbs compared to other fruit)

Dinner- 4 oz of chicken and some sort of non-starchy veggie and maybe a lowfat cheese stick

Snack- 1/4 c almonds and if I haven't already eaten it 1 lowfat cheese stick. (My nut. says to get 2 servings of dairy a day)

I don't count calories or Protein or anything like that but yesterday, for example, I ate the following:

Breakfast: a handful of dry Kashi high Protein Cereal and a Greek yogurt with Splenda

Lunch: Tomato Soup and some chicken breast in Peter Luger sauce

Dinner: broccoli and a small piece of salmon in dill sauce from Fairway

Dessert: some strawberries and three sugar free popsicles

LapNYC - I want to get to this point you are talking about, but did you start by tracking things in order to sort of memorize the stuff that you needed to consume?

WOW MollyRN you helped me out again by adding this post. This is just what I needed..

I have a question though did your doc say you can have nuts and popcorn? Mine said no.

It sounds like the majority are following a low carb way of eating huh?

Thats gonna be hard cause I crave fruits and tossed salads. Wish someone would tell me a safe salad dressing.

Ive also been boiling boneless skinless chicken breast and putting them in the blender with fat free dukes may, sweet pickles and onions and eating it on slices of cucumbers. Also have used canned tuna and am gonna try doing it with shrimp.

Thanks again and good luck,

Thanks for starting this post... I too start my morning with a Protein shake- EAS low carb is my favorite.

Grandma- I eat salad as well because I feel icky when I don't get my veggies in- I sneak Protein in them with Beans or tuna or chicken (no mayo)- for dressing I use balsamic vinegar and some oregano.

I'm not a superstar in the weight loss but I have been slow and steady and even though my scale isn't showing it I recently dropped another pant size and notice such changes in things like the way I fit in seats- so remember to look for NSVs too!

Thanks mama but I have a question...What are NSV's..Im sure when you tell me Im gonna feel really dumb so while Im feeling so can you explain what does PBing stand for and why am I doing it so often. I hope to learn what im doing wrong so I can stop. Thanks

NSV is non scale victory- PB is productive burp- I have never actually done it- but from these boards I gather that it is how some peoples bodies deal with being stuck- causes wrong foods, too much food, food not chewed enough etc...

Thanks for all of the info...

Im thinking my PBing is coming from eating too fast and Im sure Im doing it too much cause my son said I should start eating dinner in the bathroom..hes tired of me spitting up the slime in the kitchen trash can.lol hes 26 I think he needs to find him his own place to live..JK LOL

I have only thrown up food twice, once I ate a bite of ramen noodles and once I had one bite of grilled chicken they both came up before they got all the way down.

Well this gives me alot to work on..tomorrow i start journaling..counting my calories and eating slower..

there's no reason not to eat fruit and salads.

For dressing, I really like just plain olive oil and salt and pepper on a salad. I'm not big on fancy dressings, especially vinegar-y ones. Olive oil is a good fat, and some fat with a salad means you absorb the nutrients much more than if you have no fat with it.

OMG. I eat so much compared to some of you that i feel like a glutton.

Breakfast - poached egg on wholemeal toast

lunch - sandwich usually toasted with whatever on. Sometimes I can eat both slices of bread sometimes its an open sandwich.

Mid afternoon - nut bar or something similar.

dinner - same as the rest of the family, meat + carb + veggie.

evening - greek yogurt with cinnamon + splenda.

Elcee - I'm kind of a believer that the body will begin to start to slow down your metabolism if you severely restrict your caloric intake. I used to do 1000 calorie diets and never lost weight as fast as I did with the band. Your body has an amazing ability to adapt. For the first time, I allowed myself 1500 calories approx/day and have had success. So it sounds like you're doing the right thing and from your ticker you've done great. Congrats!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
