To fill or not to fill. That is my question.

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for my 3rd fill Friday and am starting to think I may not need one. I was at a weight standstill then I changed my Breakfast and added more veggies and the scale has started to move, 4 pounds in about a week. I have been careless and had 2 stuck episodes that sent me runningto the bathroom to get the violater up. I think they were the result of not chewing enough. I do okay during the day but when I get home from work it's Katie bar the door (or pantry as the case may be)I can eat bunches. So I'm wondering if I need a fill or just more self control. On the other hand maybe another .5 ccs would help with the added hunger. I have been fortunate that except for bread I can pretty much eat anything and kinda like knowing that I can still enjoy foods just less. Please give me some imput.

Know exactly what you mean, especially after reading all the stories on here about people PB'ing and sliming several times a week. I'm kinda thinking I would rather just let my willpower take over when necessary rather than have too much fill.

It is normal to be hungry when you get home from work. The band is designed so that you are not hungry for approx 4 hours. The period between lunch and dinner is generally a lot longer than this so a healthy snack mid afternoon should help. Another fill probably wouldn't eliminate this hunger and as you say it may make you too tight.

like you, i do good from morning until supper time.

no problem or hunger during that time.

i can eat more than i think i should at supper.

i've only had 1 PB episode and 2 stuck episodes so i feel i'm close to being too tight. personally i'd rather try and control it myself than to have another small fill and be too tight.

i don't want to get to the place where i'm always stuck and having discomfort.

i just want to get as close to that line without going over.

my last fill was .5 cc and if i get any more fills, i wouldn't go any more than that again. thats how close i feel i am to proverbial line of going too far.

i'm rarely hungry, but i find i have to watch myself from "picking" at stuff that isn't good for me later in the day.

my band is doing what it is supposed to do, i just have to keep an eye on my biggest nemesis......ME.

keep up the good work.

I'm at the same place. My weight has not changed though in a week and I'm trying not to get discouraged but I'm not convinced a fill is the answer. I'm not interested in pbing or sliming or throwing up and the band allows me to eat most things (minus bread and chicken) just much less. I havent' increased any food intake but yesterday changed my exercise. We'll see. My clothes continue to increase in size(getting baggier), however, in spite of the scale staying the same!

My doctor said if I were to go a week without losing a pound I had to go back to liquids until I lost that pound plus one more. I only had a couple plateaus, but his advice was sound and worked well! Maybe try that before you go get a fill. The reason I say this is because sometimes our metabolism just needs a little kickstart.

I have been doing a afternoon snack but am still starving by dinner. I am usually hungry every 3 hours. Weak willpower is what got me here. I am trying to remind myself, just because it's there and tastes good doesn't mean I have to eat it right now. I think I'm going to go and get 1/2 cc and maybe that will be the tweak I need. I am not looking forward to a liquid weekend. I starve on liquids. If I keep premade veggies at hand I do good with Snacks. My stuck and pb'ing is the result of not chewing. I can eat about a cup of food to fill me. (ie. can of tuna with mayo onion relish and crackers for lunch) Thanks for all the input it helps getting other points of view.

I had the same issue between lunch and dinner. Pickles are an excellent snack, with only 5 calories and can rev up that metabolism. I'm a cottage cheese person too, so I would have a little cottage cheese to try to tide me over to dinner.< /p>

Just make sure you are distinguishing between head hunger and true hunger. I always wait until my stomach physically growls before I snack on something. That way I don't let my head control my weight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
