Lapband Before Cruise

Recommended Posts

I am booked for a much anticipated cruise with my sister in Jan (she has lost 80 pounds as a result of surgery in 2007) I am just beginning the process and will probably be banded some time in late September.

The food used to be one of the cruise highlights and recognize this will no longer be the case in terms of eating frequent large amts.

Can anyone tell me if I will be able to enjoy any of the food in solid form 3 months out. Am I fooling myself and wait until after the vacation. Any advice would be much appreciated.:blushing:

I had the same concerns at one time! I was banded late September had my first fill late November and went to the Atlantis/Bahamas in December. I think you should be on solids by then, but every doctor is different. I did two weeks liquids, two weeks soft, then solids. When I travel to this day I always carry Medifast or some type of protien packets just incase I can't seem to eat solids at every meal that day. I always have trouble at Breakfast so I would just order a glass of milk and mix my Protein packet in it at the table! I always made sure when we ate lunch or diner to order safe foods (contrary to what people say)I didn't want an episode at lunch/dinner with friends. I ordered soft foods, Soups, mashed or baked pots, oatmeal with milk to thin it down, etc.etc. I have been on several cruises and I know the temptation with all the food available but you should do fine if you watch what you eat. Look ahead at the daily menus and think about and plan what will fit in your diet. Good Luck and have fun!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
