July banders-work together

Recommended Posts

Rebecca, I feel your pain! I keep losing/gaining, then losing a little more. Net effect is still a loss but I always bounce around so much. I guess until better restriction kicks in, we are at the mercy of how "good" we are on our diets  I have been rockin' it on the exercise, though. It's not easy and I have to talk myself into every day, but I have been doing it most days. I believe it has helped me a ton. If I've had days where I'm not so great on my diet, ramping up the exercise helps shed the Water weight and also serves as a motivator to better the next day, which I usually do  And so it goes until the next breakdown in the eating area! I'm trying, however, not to beat myself up over it too much as I feel like this is real life, not some perfect dieting world that we gained access to once we were banded. It is still hard work and our results are the direct outcomes of the choices we make. I LOVE this site, too! I come on most days are reading about others struggles/victories really keeps my head in the game. My third fill is Oct 18. I'm hoping to hit the sweet spot at that time. I had to get some removed after the 2nd (coudn't even drink water) and now I can feel it loosening up even more and my hunger is returning as is my ability to eat more than I should. I am, however, still WAY more restricted than I was. I am battling with getting stuck a little too much because I just have not learned the art of taking small bites and chewing longer. Each time I've been stuck, I know that was the reason. I will get better. This is all a learning process! Best of luck to you and other July bandsters:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I called my doctor today and moved my 2nd fill up a couple weeks..I didnt think they would allow it but they did...I just want some restriction! thanks Isa Bella for your words of encouragement..I do need to accept the fact that is part of the journey and it wont happen as fast as I want it to. I also need to take responsibility for eating some things I shouldnt and not keeping up with my exercise. I joined the gym this week and plan on starting with my first body pump class tomorrow...finger's crossed...I will keep checking back here buts it good to know other people are going through the same struggle!!

I'm glad to hear that everyone is doing well. I just had my second fill yesterday and now I am up to 2.5 cc's. I am hoping that this will give me a little restriction. I have been doing about 3 miles every day while wearing a waist trimmer belt. Let me tell you I have never sweat like that before in my life than I do when I wear that belt and to be sweating like that in my mid section I am not mad about that. Lets keep up the good work July bandsters!!

Hi fellow July Banders,

I read all these stories of everyone that was banded when I was and its frustrating to me, I was banded 7/21/10 and have lost 44 lbs, BUT it has not been a good ride. I am still on stage 2 diet, and have been in the hospital 5 times (min stay 3 days each time) due to complications of my hiatal hernia repair. I have been dehydrated, had to have hiatal hernia surgery reversal, and pneumonia from aspirating in my sleep. I am lucky if I can eat anything more than a mouthful and so tired of Protein Water and Protein Shakes I could scream!

NOW they are now saying that MAYBE I have muscle problems with my esophagus and have to go to Philadelphia for a special test... I think I was better off fat!

Sorry to sound like a "poor me whiner" ..I am just tired of Dr's ...tired of not eating...tired of not having enough strength to do things ...sigh...I am just tired!

I thought if anyone would understand you guys would.

Mandy

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
