It's clear. I don't think that a Protein Shake would hurt you. I did them. I would however check with your doctor. Tell he/she that you are very hungry and ask if it would be ok for you to progress to the next step. That's what your doctor is there for. Don't hesitate to ask. BandedKraut 0 Posted August 3, 2010 Am I the only one that was told to consume Clear Liquids or my band would slip? Why are there so many different versions of the recovery process for this procedure?
Astrasmom 1 Posted August 8, 2010 Am I the only one that was told to consume Clear Liquids or my band would slip? Why are there so many different versions of the recovery process for this procedure? All doctors are different. Liquids don't make your band slip. I was told to do clear liquids also but my doctor considered my Protein shake a clear liquid even though I put milk into it. There are clear liquid Protein drinks on the market though. unjury makes a great chicken Soup flavored one that you can heat up. Yes I know that they can be a bit exspensive but ufortunately we didn't gain weight over night and it took alot of money to get this weight on also. It will take more money to get it off. Unfortunately until you can rely on soilds for your Protein and don't need the supplements anymore, you will have to invest some money. But I'm rolling off topic right now. As I said before, all doctors are different. Speak to your doctors, that is what they are there for.
BetsyB 9 Posted August 8, 2010 Check with your doctor. Mine wanted me to stick with clear liquids---and nixed the addition of Protein. Even Protein powder added to clear liquids doesn't permit the same degree of bowel rest as clear liquids alone. All doctors have different "rules" and rationales---so you need to check to be sure. belld 0 Posted August 8, 2010 I am asking the same question. My doc says only liquids with no sugar....jello, chicken broth, Protein Shakes etc. for three weeks.
wickwit 1 Posted August 8, 2010 Holy crap, and I'm complaing about a full liquid diet, I'd be miserable if I had to stick to clear liquid for this long! I was clear liquid for 24 hours after surgery, and now full liquids (soups, Protein shakes, yogurts, etc) for two weeks, then mushies for two weeks. Call your Doctor!! Does any one know how long before we see any weight loss? I didn't expect to lose anything, consider this a healing phase, but someone posted that they had lost something like 7 pounds in 4 days post op! WOW!! Please tell me that's unusual?! AmberK 5 Posted August 9, 2010 Ive lost a lot of weight post op myself- 13 lbs so far since the day before surgery. But I did a low carb/high Protein diet 2 weeks before surgery and even though my clothes fit differently the scale didnt move. Then 1 day of clear liquids before surgery and now Im on clear liquids 4 days post op. I was told I could move to full liquids and he said the Protein Shakes would be ok but I just dont think I can handle them yet. I might give it a try because I do think I need some protein but wont be surprised if I cant handle it.
