VelvetKiss 0 Posted December 4, 2005 I was wondering if anyone on the list had a High BMI at there time of surgery? Also were you still able to have it done laporscopically? Were there any difference you had to do then someone with a low BMI? Oh, by High BMI I am talking BMI 59+. Thanks, Tonya
Tamiko 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Mines was pretty high. I am 5'11" and when I had my surgery I weighed 420. They put me on a liquid diet a week before surgery and I lost 10lbs, but because I passed all my tests I didn't have any problems and my surgery went fine. vinesqueen 2 Posted December 4, 2005 Hey Tonya, my DH isnt' on this board, he wants me to have my own support place where I cant talk trash about him. My DH's starting BMI was in the 80s, which of course is meaningless. His starting weight was 600 pounds. They did him labroscopically, and he had to stay in hospital a few extra days because of some minor complications
Margo 0 Posted December 5, 2005 I am trying to remember (or forget, as the case may be!!) what my starting BMI was....I think it was nearly 60 as I was 350 and only 5 foot, 4 inches. I had my surgery done "lap" and all went well....Praise the Lord.....
babsintx3 0 Posted December 5, 2005 Hi , Mine was 54 which only puts me within 30 lbs of a 59 or higher BMI. My surgery went without a hitch and the results have been good as well. Babs in TX 334/180/170 -

Anndallei 0 Posted December 6, 2005 At 338 pounds, 5' 1" tall my BMI was 64 before my lap band surgery. I had no problems what-so-ever with the surgery or recovery. I had surgery in my doctor's surgery center and was able to go home a couple of hours afterward. I've lost 40 pounds since Sept. 6th. I'm 57 years old and have never felt better! I love my band! Ericalynn13 1 Posted December 6, 2005 Hi, I was at 75 bmi when I had my surgery 9 weeks ago. Yes I have the band and yes it was done laporscopically, it took me 4 surgeons to find one that felt confident to do it, but it is DONE. Don't hesistate for a minute to go to another surgeon and another and another, until you get the answers you need for you.
