Guest Wasfat Posted December 4, 2005 I’m 4 months out with my Band surgery. I’m down 70 plus lbs. Sounds good?. MY PROBLEM, right after every fill, I can’t drink Water or consume any liquid. It slowly got better clearing up totally after 5 or 6 days. But this last fill it hasn’t gotten better. In fact I can’t hardly keep anything down. Been living off mashed potatoes for the last week. I can keep down chipped or shaved ice. But at times my own salvia causes me to get the hiccups which ends in throwing up. My surgeon doesn’t know what to make of it. I went to my ENT doctor; he scoped me, but found nothing wrong. My family PhD wants to put in an IV and leave it in, so I get enough liquids. I don’t want that option! But I got to do something quick! I’m losing 2-3 lbs a day, that’s too fast! And I’m showing all the signs of dehydration. PLEASE tell me what to do!! PS Posted this on another forum, it was suggested I try hot Chocolate, I been able to keep it down, with some differcultly. 1/4 cup at a time!
Tricia K. 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Maybe get an unfill?
liannatx 897 Posted December 4, 2005 I agree that you need a small unfill. Are you really needing a fill when you have them, and how many fills have you had in 4 months? If you are losing weight that fast and having problems with each new fill it may be because your band is already snug enough and the fill is making it a tad bit too tight each time. I am surprised your doctor hasnt slowed down on the fills.
HarleyNana 10 Posted December 4, 2005 Unfill, don't try to be a hero and stick it out, you'll be miserable and it's not healthy for you either.
Guest Wasfat Posted December 4, 2005 Thanks for the quick response! I'm going to try and see my dr on monday. He only does fills on Thursdays, but maybe I can talk him into seeing me sooner. Unlike some of the posts here, my people bend over backward to help the patient. So I'm luckily in that sense. I'm a freak case. They had to use the XL band on me. It was their first time doing some one as large as me, not weight (381)but just plain big! He admits he is learning on me.

mahelpme 24 Posted December 4, 2005 Sounds to me like you need a little un-fill ASAP. good luck
Guest Wasfat Posted December 4, 2005 I am surprised your doctor hasnt slowed down on the fills. I've had 6 fills in the 4 months. I know that sounds like a lot, but my band holds 9cc. My dr pretty much leaves the fill choices up to the patient!
aaamom 0 Posted December 4, 2005 I have three words for you- GET AN UNFILL ! I suffered from the same thing and was very aggessive about getting fills. On my last fill I was choking on my own vomit at night and living on sips of Water. I agree, do not try to be a hero. In the long run, it could lead to serious complications. You need more than ice chips to live on. Even you only get a very small amount taken out, it will make a world of difference. An unfill is easier than sitting in an ER hooked up to an IV. Guest Wasfat Posted December 5, 2005 Thanks for all the great advice. I was at the dr's office first thing this AM. He removed 1cc and balled me out for not coming in right away. He's right of course but heck I dropped 11lbs in 7dys. Feel better already and have drank 1Qt of Water already.
