use-to-be-cute 0 Posted August 2, 2010 I am 3 days post op. This morning I woke up and felt a little itchy. But when I was putting on my bra, I felt sore (like raw skin). So I looked down and underneath my breast are huge raw red spots and my entire trunk is covered in red dots. My guess is that I must be allergic to the Hydrocodone (pain med). So I havent taken any in several hours and the rash is looking a little better but now I have a throbbing headache and my surgical area hurts a little. Does anyone know if I can take Aceteminophen? If so, do I crush it? I left the Doctor a message first thing this morning but dont want to keep calling since it isnt an emergency.
Kelley1380 0 Posted August 2, 2010 I took tylenol and I was fine. I didn't have to crush mine, but I think it is your preference. Good luck and I would continue to try to get ahold of your doctor. I hope this helps!!!
honk 780 Posted August 2, 2010 Personally I would consider this an emergency. If possible I would go to the emergency room of the hospital where your surgeon works. I would not take chances with allergies from medication. I once stopped breathing after being given intervenous pain killer.
iseethinme 0 Posted August 2, 2010 I had an allergic reaction to the Steri strips that covered all of my incisions. It was really bad. Went back to doc and he sent me to a Dermatologist. Had to get a shot of epinephine because my eyes swelled shut after they took the strips off. My rash started out as red bumps that spread all over my incisions. Go Back to doc ASAP could be serious. Jachut 487 Posted August 2, 2010 Paracetamol should do the trick for pain(I think Tylenol is paracetamol, we have diff. brands here). but I would definitely not let a possible allergic reaction go. I'd consider this worth bothering the doctor for.
use-to-be-cute 0 Posted August 2, 2010 Thanks everyone. So here is the update: I called the Doctors office and talked to the nurse. Nurse says it sounds like I may be allergic to the pre-op sterilizing solution they used to wash me down prior to surgery. She said it does not sound like the medicine. So she wants me to take liquid Benedryl and rub Caladryl on it. She also said if I can tolerate the pain to stop the pain med (just in case it was the pain med giving me the rash) and to expect the rash to clear up in a week to ten days and NO SCRATCHING. Lol. The good news is that food is not on my mind anymore. Here is a picture of the rash. I had to crop out the really red stuff because it was on the bottom of my boobs. For the record, those spots on my tummy are the rash, not freckles.
breathingez4u 0 Posted August 2, 2010 Your doc was right. I had that same rash two days after my surgery and still almost a week later, have it! I was told it was from the surgical prep and would just take time to go away! Hang in there!
Band_Groupie 3 Posted August 2, 2010 I get allergic reactions to both adhesive (from the clear Patches, steri-strips, even Band-Aids) as well as to the harsh soaps/bleach they use on hospital sheets/gowns (I took in my own sheets and nightgown as I had an overnight stay). Hope you're feeling better soon and keep a close eye on it and any breathing problems.
