I started at 249 in march and am down to 241. My surgery is scheduled 9/22/2010. I would lik eto know on average how much weight do you lose within the first month of being banded. How much can you expect to lose month to month there after. I' am aware for each person the amount of weight varies but I'm just looking for an estimate, something to look forward to possibly. Thank You

Most people gain Fluid weight from surgery, then have a quick Fluid weight drop in the week(s) thereafter. Then comes the healing period where some lose and some gain.

Since the band is installed with no fluid normal hunger usually (not always) returns. Then long term weight loss of generally 1-3 pounds a week (obviously highly variable) begins after achieving satisfactory restriction from fills.

This is a very simplistic overview for the majority of bandsters. There are lots of variables. Some people have restriction from the get go without fills and some have to wait many many months to get good restriction.

Good luck!

Brad

Thanks Bam I appreciate your response. How soon after the surgery did you start your weight training. I'am a single mom and I plan to take some time off from work after the surgery. In that time Id like to be walking and start some Water aerobics. I figure by the 2nd week of post op surgery I should be ready to roll as normal. what do you think?

I lost tons of weight immediately following surgery, I think I'd lost about 40lb within 3 months, which I consider pretty darn fast.

But I did no pre op diet so I hadnt exhuasted that easy fast initial weight loss you get when you go on a diet. And I have a 4cc band (which is what they used routinely back then). I believe those bands are far better for getting immediate restriction than the newer bands, I had really really good restriction right from the get go.

That sounds good . I hope I have that result. I know it's not good to lose a lot fast but I really do need to come down .

I am really too darn fat!!

Initially, moderate to intense cardio was my tool of choice, with minimal strength training. I've now shifted gears and strength training has become the priority.

I would consult your surgeon about how soon you can workout without restrictions. Most seem to be in the 4-6 week post op range.

Walking and Water aerobics are a great way to get started.

Good luck!

I'm not sure Water aerobics will work within the first couple of weeks because you aren't supposed to submerge yourself in water for long periods of time. I have only one cut and am glued, and I am not supposed to swim for 4 weeks. Maybe cycling could substitute for a few weeks?

Absolutely I already do a beginners spinning class. I noticed in the package it mentions swimming and lots of it. I figured I coul dstart off slow with a water aerobics class then inch my way up to swimming. However I'am unaware when I'am able to participate in such a class. As you said it may be well after 4 weeks of surgery. I will ask that question prior to surgery. Thanks

Spinning classes are the best bang for your buck cardio you can do IMO... Love it! :blushing:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
