I think somethings stuck!

Recommended Posts

Was banded just 3 days ago. Mashed Potatoes ARE on my pureed diet plan from the dr. but soon after eating them I got a pain in the middle of my chest that has been there now for about 36 hours. I can't eat what I'm supposed to without extreme fullness (feels like Thanksgiving dinner after 2 bites), and even Water makes the pain worse. Not intolerable but bothersome. Feels like I have a lump in my throat and sort of moves up and down... I've tried to help what ever it is come up but it doesn't. Burping doesn't help other than move the bump further up but then it goes down...

I'm thinking my potatoes were too thick and now they are like cement, stuck in my new stomach.

Will call the Dr. tomorrow but wondering if anyone has a trick to get it to come out in the meantime. Wondering if maybe a tums would work? Any rules on using antacids?

Upside is the scale is moving down - 7 pounds so far! So far I LOVE my band! I miss tasting my favorite foods but I'm so full all of the time, I good without them! Went to Wisconsin Dells today and WATCHED my family eat hot fudge sundaes and I was OK with that! I LOVE not being a slave to food already!

Definitely call doctor in the morning. Until then I would only drink Clear Liquids and try some gas x strips that melt on your tongue. Good luck! Haven't had that feeling yet, so not sure what other advice to give you...sorry

If you were further along I would tell you to try and cough it up , but as you are only 3 days out that could cause your band to slip.

You can try papaya enzymes as they supposedly help to move/digest stuck food. However they have never done the trick for me.

Try sucking crushed ice as that helps to reduce swelling and it is possible that you are swollen.

Other than that I have no ideas, my Dr had me on liquids for 2 weeks after surgery so its hard to know what to suggest.

Well, I surfed the forum and saw a some comments about pineapple juice and papaya enzyems so my husband and I took a midnight drive to Walmart.

Without exaggeration, 1 sip of the pineapple juice brought relief! OMG, it was so great to have another flavor to try so I drank the whole can (very small can) and it completely cured my problem! I'm buying stock in Dole Pineapple juice!

I also bought the papaya enzymes and took a dose of those, 4 chewable tabs. Yumm.. another flavor. This morning I'm good as new! LOVE my band!

I'm putting the bottle of enzymes in my purse and a can of juice in my truck for those times I may run into trouble down the road.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
