does everyone feel restriction already a few days post op?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I was banded 07/26 and i think I've got restriction.

I ate a piece of soft but sticky cheesecake yesterday, and 3 pieces of herring too and guess what, I got stuck on it for 7 hours.

That was a good lesson for me, not to do that again and stick to my full liquid post op diet for the first 10 days after surgery.

Is what I felt normal due to post op condition, or am I lucky and have restriction? I have 2cc in my 10cc band.

I hope this is restriction, sice I would love to loose already and not wait till I'm filled 6cc or 7cc like most ppl.

Thanx u guys, good luck to everyone!

You're only a few days postop--and yes, most people do have at least some restriction (if only temporary) from swelling in the week or so postop.

I would not be surprised if you find that you feel less restricted as time passes--it's pretty common.

You may be one of the lucky few who do have restriction right away. But the amount of food you ate doesn't really suggest great restriction---I would not necessarily attribute discomfort to being stuck; it's more likely it was due to advancing your diet too quickly.

You don't really have to wait for restriction to lose weight. You just have to make wise food choices. (Cheesecake might not be among them :rolleyes2:)

Yes, enjoy it while it lasts. I was good until I started eating soft foods. Now I am patiently waiting for restriction. I go for my fifth fill this coming Wednesday so maybe that will do the trick.

I'm a month out and I'm still only able to eat about half a cup before I'm full.

The other day I ate an entire chicken breast and thought I was gonna pop! I am so thrilled that this is my bandster hell.:rolleyes2:

I had this feeling for 6 weeks post op. I still had swelling for that long. Once it goes away you will surely no longer be thrilled about bandster hell. lol ! BTW Your doing great!

Hi Everyone,

Yes, the first few days (maybe up to 2 weeks) after surgery you will feel something like 'restriction', but it's partly swelling from the surgery itself.

Please follow the post-op diet TO THE TEE! Don't take a chance on ruining your health or your new band by eating solid food too early. This is the time to get your head wrapped around your new eating style and portions, and it's an important practice time.

It takes 21 - 28 days to create a new habit - use this time to establish a really good eating habit and stick to it. I am nearly 2 years out and very happy I did this.

Be well!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
