Hi all,

I am wondering where people stand on the idea of being a food addict. I have other addiction issues, and consider food to be just another one. I completly stay away from refined carbs and high fat foods. My feeling is I will have to abstain for the rest of my life. I am no good at doing things in moderation. Do others feel the same way? I am curious to read people's feedback. Thanks!

I definatley struggle with this. I dont have any other addictions but I lose control with food. However if I tell myself I cant have something then I want it sooo badly and I obsess over it.

I posted about this a few weeks ago and I got alot of advice to visit overeaters annon. I have started that process, but I still dont know how things will go.

I think alot of people who struggle with weight struggle with food addiction, many just cant admit it. Its good that you are self-aware enough to do so. Good Luck!!

I too am a food addict. Once I start I cant stop, sometimes till Im just sick. Thats one reason Ive never been a Breakfast eater because I know as soon as I start eating its an all day craving episode.

Ive also felt like I just dont have what ever it is that others have in their stomach to make me feel full. I have a husband and three grown sons and I can eat as much as or more than any of them.

Thats why Im so thankful for my band. Now, when I get up in the morning and I eat an instant pack of oatmeal and an egg white Im full til about 10am. Then I eat a little bit of fat free tuna salad and Im good til lunch, which at my job usually doesnt come til about 2:00. My point is for once in my life I feel in control of my addiction.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
