I know loosing hair is scary. It was happening to me so I went to the dermatologist. Much to my relief he told me I won't go bald. He said your body goes into a kind of shock with rapid weightloss. Just give it a little time and it should resolve itsself. I have read people using Biotin, don't know anything about it. Best wishes!

I have never tried biotin....but am having some success with Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner.

vlp1968...I am happy to hear that we won't go bald. Mine is getting pretty thin!

I have fine hair anyways so I started taking herbal Biotin and using nioxin Shampoo and conditioner about 2-3 weeks post surgery. I'm 9/10 weeks out now and I'm still "holding my own" on Hair loss.

I got the herbal liquid Biotin on Amazon.com.

Also, I really take care to get at least 60gm of Protein and 60 oz of Water a day and take a multi Vitamin and Calcium.

This is just replacing some of the Vitamins and minerals I gave up along with about 2000 calories a day of junk.

Good luck to you!

Sorry to hear about your Hair loss. I have also lost a scary amt of hair to the point that i have a very thin spot on the top of my head...I take Biotin, tons of Vitamins, Protein up the wazooooo, and nioxin for the last year....No luck...my dermatologist said Nioxin is good at making your hair shiny and thats it...LOL....oh well i would rather be thinking i am doing something than nothing at all. I take 5000 mcg of biotin daily. All my vitamins are chewable or liquids so i am very compliant...If i have done everything I can do and it still falls out, then i will shave it and have a sexy tatoo placed on my head.....who knows...could be kind of fun......onenuttynurse

I also have started losing gobs of hair - I still have plenty, but if it keeps at this rate, it will be thin soon. My dr office said it also could be reaction from the anesthesia.

My hair is also falling out...in handfuls! I thought I was doing good because after 2 months post-op, I still wasn't losing hair, and then wham-o. I take 3000 mg of Biotin religiously, and have been, since surgery day. It's not helping. I am starting the Nioxin regimen every day now, to see if that helps. I hate it. My hair has thinned out so much!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
