How many pounds lost = a dress size?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Just wondering, how many pounds lost equals a decrease in dress size? For example, if you loose 20lbs how many dress sizes would you change?

:rolleyes2:

Don't know for others - but I am down 65 pounds and have gone from a 30/32 to a 24 - so I would say 16-20 pounds sounds about right.

I think this will differ from person to person. The same way as 2 people can weigh the same but take totally different sizes.

When I was heavier I had to lose much more for it to make a difference in sizing. But since I've gotten under size 14, it only takes 5 or 10 pounds for me to go down a size.

I've lost almost 70, and have only gone down one size. I was at a tight 24 (probably could have worn a 26), but am now comfortably in 22 (although probably could fit into 20). So probably technically 3 sizes, so about every 20lbs.

Well I've lost 30 lbs and went from a tight 20/22 to a loose 14/16. (10 lbs a size) I think the biggest variable is if your working out. If you work out more you lose inches faster than you lose weight.

Weight Watchers leader preached 10lb = 1 size.

Sounds about right.

I am down 50-lbs and have only gone down 1 size!

I think that some people just carry weight differently and I am not sure if you can really assign a weight-size ratio that will fit all. The taller/shorter you are will really determine how fast you lose sizes. I am about 5'10" and have gone from a tight 18 to a perfect 16. Maybe the next 50-lbs will get me to a smaller size!

I'm 5'4" and it is 10 lbs a size for me.

That all depends on what size you wear now.

When I was a 20, it took 20 pounds to get to an 18 and another 20 to get to a 16. Then it was 15 to get to a 14 and another 15 to a 12. Now it's about 10 pounds per dress size. I'm a 10 and it will take me 10 pounds to get into an 8. After that, it'll probably be about 7 to get into a 6 and hopefully another 7 to see a 4. My lowest size so far was a 6, but I didn't hold it. I crept back up to a 10 after having gall bladder surgery and an unfill, blah, blah.

YMMV

It seems like you have to gain 25 pounds to go to a larger size, but you have to loose 50 to go down a size!

I have lost over 40 and have only gone down one full size...maybe almost another. I am small busted and short waisted so it takes longer to show. My clothes fit a lot differently now, though. Pant and capri legs are loose and tops skim nicely instead of hugging every lump.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
