Hey jamelyn! Glad to hear that you made it through okay. Sorry to hear about the hernia and associated pain. I'm still having a little trouble with my left shoulder, but nothing I can't live with. The other pain is almost gone. Hang in there -- it will get better! I guess you're walking a lot? They say that helps.

Take care everyone, and follow your doctor's orders!

I'm doing a little better! My shoulder pain on the left side and if I breath in very deep I have discomfort still. We went to Target & the grocery store today, felt ok until right before we left and it was too much walking for me. I still feel run down still (because I'm not sleeping more than 2 hrs at a time). I honestly am getting hungry and am SO sick of fat-free both, popsicles and Jello, I can't wait to move on to to full-liquid.

Hope every is doing well!

It's very interesting to me how different we all are -- and our programs! I started on full liquids Thursday. I continue to get better each day. My worst thing right now is the heaviness in the center of my chest. I spoke to one of the surgeon's nurses about it when I called in for my phone consult. She said that was the swelling of my stomach that I was feeling and that it was perfectly normal. But it sure does hurt when I hiccup!

So glad to hear that you are doing a bit better. Are you taking Gas-X? That has helped me.

I know, I'm actually a little annoyed about how strict my doctor was at 1st, but I realize now that he does it this way to really get my mind ready for life with the band.

I have that pressure on my chest as well and I really hope it goes away soon! I do take Gas-X but not as much as I should I guess. I think my biggest issues is that I'm not really taking in the most liquid I should be daily. I'm getting maybe 20oz a day

I was a little annoyed at my surgeon, too, but then I realized that he had number better than the national average because he was so careful and thorough. That made me feel better about all his rules. Plus, as you say, it does help get the mind ready for the big change, I think.

Getting my fluids in isn't really an issue for me. I have chronic dry mouth, so I drink a lot of Water. I still am not really hungry, but I'm eating at meal times just to get some food in.

I am occasionally struggling with just wanting to eat -- not anything not on my full liquid diet, just to eat to be eating, though. That's a bit frustrating! :)

From what I read here and there, for a lot of people the desire to eat mindlessly does eventually go away. I'm hoping we both are some of those people! But, especially at first, I think it's important to remember that it's our stomachs that are being banded, not our heads; if we're eating from head hunger now, we may very well have to struggle with that for a while afterwards. That's what's happening to me. It's not helping any that I'm not getting any real signals from my body as to whether I'm hungry or full or whatever.

Good luck to you!

I read this one post and it has been my inspiration!Once you are banded, and you will be, when your fill is perfect, your life will change. You will notice how radically different, and silent, all those food demons in your head will be. I cried when I first noticed the magic fill. Everyone in my head just shut up. The silence was beautiful. I didn't NEED cheesesteaks, I wasn't STARRRVING for anything. I was clearheaded for the first time in my entire life. When I ate those foods by conscious choice, it didn't always taste perfect and wonderful. Sometimes, it was a disappointment and not worth the calories. Yes, even of my favorite cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory :) Once food wasn't constanly perfect, I was able to get picky...do I want to eat the pizza and feel the uncomfortable passing through the band? Bleh...no pain for me today thx. I would actually made GOOD CHOICES! omg. Me, fat Kate, choosing a salad over chicken parm?? I feel normal when I cn do that. It's not all the time, but it happens more often than not.

I am quoting Kate Eryn..from : did you cheat pre op liquid diet-50173

THANK YOU KATE

Thanks for posting this, kellyodoran! This is what I am hoping will happen for me. Until I reach the sweet spot, I am expecting to have to struggle a bit with this issue. But it's so nice to read that once I reach that place, I don't have to anymore ...

Thanks again! It really is inspiring.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
