Luvtexas 0 Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) Hi Everyone I just had my surgery last Tuesday 07/27/2010. Im so lucky to be able to say this, but Ive not had ONE problem. No pain, no gas, no hunger. Nothing. I really dont even feel as if Ive been banded. Im not hungry, although, I do want "graze". This has been my life long battle: the "grazing". So, my problem is that I feel so good I feel as if I can eat anything all throughout the day. Im not over eating, by any means, but I think Im probably eating more than a typical newly banded patient should be. There really is no sign telling me that Im eating too much. I dont feel as if Ive been banded at all. So, my question is this: Is it possible that the band could have slipped already? HAs anyone else felt as if they weren't banded? I guess I just dont know what I should be feeling like. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! Good luck to you all! bambam31 168 Posted July 31, 2010 Once the surgery swelling subsides you basically have an empty band in place. Trust me, you'll know it's there when you start getting fills. Good luck and congrats on getting your journey underway! Brad
quilterlu 0 Posted July 31, 2010 Hi Everyone I guess I just dont know what I should be feeling like. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! Good luck to you all! I think you must be lucky Luvtexas, I was banded on July 28. I have had some pain and the gas pain in the hospital was bad. Each day the pain is much better and I move much easier. As for eating I feel fullness at the base of my throat. Even when taking all my meds in the morning with coffee I can feel the fullness. It is real similar to heart burn for me. It probably feels different for each individual. My Dr. put in 4cc at surgery. I try to drink an Isopure each day 40gm of Protein, it takes me all day to get it down. Thanks so much! Good luck to you all! I was banded last November and I was back at work the day after my surgery. I never felt like I had surgery. We're the lucky ones. You say your problem has always been 'grazing'. I'm sorry to say that the band will not solve your grazing problem. Even when you're at your sweet spot, you'll still be able to graze...and sadly, the band also doesn't seem to help at all with eating sweets. Apparently they break down enough in chewing that they slide on through...even when you have too much of a fill. Keep in mind that until you do reach some sort of restriction, it's just a piece of plastic. Even after you reach restriction, you'll still have to 'choose' to put down the fork, 'choose' not to graze, and 'choose' to eat the right foods. btrieger 21 Posted August 1, 2010 I had my surgery at Wise Regional as well and had no pain. Maybe it's the great hospital? However, on the 3rd day following surgery I woke up and felt like I had run a marathon the day before. I was stiff for about 3 or 4 hours and attributed it to the IV fluids from surgery leaving my body. I also lost 5 pounds that night. Was Dr Kim your surgeon? Laylas grandma 2 Posted August 1, 2010 Im on day 16 now and I never had any pain either. I have had other problems like crashing from not enough Protein. I learned that lesson the hard way.. Constipation for 6 days straight wow Thank God for Milk Of Magnesia. Right now my biggest problem is the itching from the incisions...Anybody got a good remedy? Luvtexas 0 Posted August 1, 2010 Hey Bodybug: Dr. Rodriquez was my surgeon. He is awesome! I cant even SEE my incision! It's in my belly button. He did a great job. Are you hungry? Im not really, so much, hungry anymore. I just feel as if I could eat anything I want. Im JUST starting to be able to fill up off of a very small amount of food. The first few days after surgery, I couldn't even tell i that I had a band. T..he Dr. must not have put any fill in it. Maybe I'll see a bigger difference when I have my first fill. Hope so... Luvtexas 0 Posted August 1, 2010 Laylas Grandma: Try to keep some Protein Powder on hand. Ive got some chocolate flavored power, that I got at my Dr's office, that is actually pretty good. Its a great "quick fix" if you get hungry...☺
Laylas grandma 2 Posted August 1, 2010 Thanks Luvtexas that did work. I got the Jillian Michaels whey Protein powder in chocolate and its really not that bad..My sweet husband baked a turkey breast then put the bird in the blender with some chicken broth...It was like thanksgiving dinner.. you know that feeling you get when you are just sick of chocolate and Jello and cold stuff...man that Soup was soo good and full of protein. Luvtexas 0 Posted August 1, 2010 Laylas Grandma: You might try Benedryl creme for the itching. Also, Mederma is great for reducing any scarring. How many incisions do you have? I just have one incision and its in my belly button. You cant see a thing! I was thrilled with my surgeon!
