Sever Stomach Ache

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My husband and I are my mother in laws "support group" however we are not feeling like we are doing our job as a support team for her. She is 3 weeks post op and for the past week she has had, as she descibes it, "the worst stomach ache she has ever had." She did fine with the liquid diet for the first 2 weeks, but she tried to eat some yogurt and she said that ever since then her stomach has been hurting. That was a week ago. Is it still early to eat that? Is the pain somewhat normal for the early stages after the surgery? Right now she is feeling very alone as if she were the only person to have ever had this surgery because she has no one else to talk to who is experiencing or has experienced the same problems that she has thus far. She is now reduced back to the liquid diet, but is not eating very often due to the stomach pain. She says she is hungry but cannot tolerate eating enough to keep her full, which has led to low energy levels all day long and not feeling back to her "normal self". We are hoping to get some answers and to possibly have some comfort in knowing that other people who have had this procedure have felt the same way, and come out of it feeling better about having this procedure. Thank you in advance for your replies!!!

I think she should call her Dr.'s office so they can track how she's doing and give her help if there is a problem.

I was very slow to eat some things, but yogurt and things like it should not cause problems at 3 weeks.

I had fatigue for months.

I dont know if the yogart has fruit in it then I would think that would be not so good. It is supposed to be soft and no large amounts. Only the cup size amount and if you get full early you have to wait. No liquids during feeding and only after the alotted time and only the still small amounts. The idea is to keep the size of the stomach entact and no breaking the rules. It sounds like she is possibly exceeding the amounts. Sometimes with the fill being in the beginning it is very little you can consume at a time. even after several years and after some period of time my wife still must chew alot and stop sooner . we get alot of to go boxes. This is a positive lifestyle change and it works. It does not come without some discomfort but as the weight comes off the lifestyle will change to even exercise walking to jogging.

I have read many problems where people are just getting scared or not giving it time. Yes you should have faith but just like say for instance stopping smoking cigarettes. The best way is to just quit and not go back. Take the leap . Make the decision. I guess what I am saying is first explore making sure you just eat a little less than that cup and follow the times for eating strictly and not drinking except after the alotted time and only the amounts once again. Nothing is ever easy.

We are currently kind of in limbo ourselves with a fill access problem that is repeating itself possibly and was expensive before. I am going to give it the two weeks and see if the doctor can access the port to show faith in my wifes decision but if lightning strikes twice in the same place I will not stand by idle and watch our life savings go down the drain with extra charges to correct failures of such an expensive procedure. The hospital must be held liable at some point if their doctor and product have issues.

I can say you have to be mentally tough . The first day in the bariatric ward my wife made the laps like clockwork . I cannot remember how many but it was alot and then she followed everything very strictly and it was not without some pain. I cannot remember about all the medications and things she had to follow but there is no leaving the pathway. That is why there is a very serious screening process where my wife went at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Still Dr. Lord said the flipping of the port had never happened to him before and it happened to my wife just months into this thing and the hospital charged us 400 to verify and then 2000 to correct it . We have a problem now a year later and if it is the same I will not go quietly into that good night.

Saw my PCP & officially started my 6 month supervised diet 07/26/24. She just told me to eat less carbs & sugar, use the air fryer and not fry my foods in grease, and to try to walk 30 minutes 3 days a week & if I can't do that (and I cannot), to walk 10 minutes daily. Told me to walk fast enough that my heart rate is raised.  She didn't give me a number as far as calories though. A year or so ago I was doing low carb/sugar free and keeping my calories at 1800 or below. She said I should up my cals to 2000 at that time, so that's what I'm shooting for now.
Hubby walked with me today. He's in pretty bad shape so I was surprised he wanted to. We walked down the gravel road at a pretty good pace (for us LOL). 10 minutes walking and my heart rate was 115bps according to my Fitbit and 125bps according to his pulsometer. Either way, it was elevated and I was breathing hard. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it's a start. We'll do it again tomorrow. 😁
I should be hearing from the surgeon soon. She said if I didn't, to call him next week. Since I HAVE to do the 6 month diet & that's going to put me into January by the time it's done, I'm hoping the surgeon will let me do all my testing in January. I don't want to do it all now and have my deductible get met, only to have to pay the deductible again in January or February for my surgery. Praying that things go the way I hope. 🙏
