Alcohol one month after surgery? Is it okay?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I was banded on July 12th and am awaiting my first fill on Aug 12th. I am planning on going camping with some friends for the weekend and I am just wondering if it is okay to drink a little bit of alcohol this soon after surgery? I am not talking about massive quantities because being heavily intoxicated is not exactly my lifestyle. I am simply wondering if it is dangerous at all to my surgery if I do have a drink or two over the weekend. I do know that alcohol slows down weight loss, and once my band is filled I will become intoxicated MUCH faster than normal, but for those of you who did drink soon after surgery, was this a problem for you? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I drank a little a month or so after surgery and it wasn't a problem. I only had a couple and drank vodka and cranberry. For me, it hasn't been a problem. Stay away from beer because of the carbonation.

I waited about a month.

Be careful if drinking beer. Especially American or Canadian crap. The carbonation causes gas that will lasts for hours. Not worth it.

I had a few beers about 3 weeks after surgery and I was fine... you just have to nurse it and not take big gulps I sipped mine and one beer lasted me about 30 minutes or so...I noticed that I do get bloated very fast from the carbanation... I drink a couple of beers just about every weekend out on the boat and have not had any problems so far as long as I take my time and know when im full!!!

Before the surgwery on a good(or bad) day I would drink close to a case of beer in a day.......those days are looong gone. now I have one or two to socialize and also get the taste of one. over the course of a afternoon I might have one and that will be enopugh or i might have 2 or 3 ...just take it slow and know when your full
