Brown Fluid Came out When Getting a Fill

Recommended Posts

I went to get a fill today and the doctor put the needle in my port and went to pull out Fluid and it was brown. He has ordered me to get a procedure where they put a tube down your throat to see if my band has eroded. Has anyone ever seen or heard anything like this before. I am so nervous. Thanks for your feedback.

I went and had a endoscopy and they said my band has not eroded. What was it that you heard that was serious?

Tamana, I am so happy you have no erosion. I wonder if by chance he aspirated (sucked back) an old hematoma/bruise? That would be wonderful and mean nothing was wrong.

I don't know what it was but I am going back in 2 weeks to see if there is still brown Fluid. Now someone told me about this guy who had brown fluid and it turned out that he got a septic infection and had to have his band removed. I do not have any other symptoms of anything else but the fact that my doctor said he has never seen this before sort of worries me. Thanks for your responses.

Thats the guy, geremy on you tube. His was same issue and then one day he was very ill and was admitted to hospital and they had to reconstruct his stomach. Watch his video.

I watched his video and actually sent him an e-mail. I cannot figure out if the brown Fluid from his band was the first thing that happened??? It sounds like he was having alot of issues. Also his band had eroded and so far mine has not. I have an appt. next Thursday but I am so worried that the same thing can happen to me. My doctor is out of town this week. I also had some blood work done last week so I will find out the results today. Thank you so much for your concern and responses. By the way...I was looking at your weight loss and you have done an amazing job. Good for you and keep up the good work. I have to start exercising again because my weight is creeping up rapidly now that I have no restriction.

I have heard of it. I recently had a port site infection. It was an abscessed infection. I had been pulling weeds in the yard and I thought I was just sore because my abdomen kept hitting my upper thigh. But then I noticed I was getting really sore at the sight and I had a slight fever and I was so tired, So I made an appt. to see the surgeon and he immediately made me go the ER to get a CT of the abdomen. My surgeon showed up in the ER to see me he used a needle and syringe and drew out some brown Fluid. It was yucky. He had me get an endoscopy to see if the band had erroded into the stomach. It didn't. I had the port removed and now deciding on if I should get it replaced or not. How are you doing now? I hope you are ok.

I ended up having my band removed. I was originally going to switch out the port because my doctor thought that was the problem but I decided that since I was having surgery anyways, I would just have the whole thing out. I figure that eventually the band would have to come out because as far as I know, there has not been research done showing that you can have the band forever without any problems. Ends up that I made the right decision because when my doctor took the band out, he saw that it had basically cracked halfway between the port and the band so a port revision would not have worked anyways. How are you doing? Did you have the port replaced? I gotta tell you though that I miss my band alot. I have put on about 10 pounds since having it removed and had put on 10 pounds between the time that the brown Fluid was discovered and I had the band removed. I am not a happy camper right now but working hard trying to get this weight off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
