Flipped Port :-(

Recommended Posts

Well, I went in for my first fill today. Doctor poked around a whole bunch of times and couldn't get in to my port. He says he thinks it may be flipped.

I'm going back in a week and he is going to try to do it under x-ray so he can see better what he's doing.

If that fails then I'm will have to have surgery for a port revision.

This really sucks for two reasons.

1. My restriction is significantly reduced from what it was right after surgery and I was looking forward to my first fill.

2. I was a self pay - borrowed money for the surgery - and have no idea how the hell I'm going to pay for an additional surgery.

Hoping and praying that the Doctor will be able to take care of it under x-ray next week.

Thank y'all for hearing me out.

So sorry--I'm self pay too, so I understand..It seems stress tests, oxygen and meds ($5000, $200 etc. thank-you-very-much), are all out of pocket! But I'm trying to think of it this way: This is A LOT cheaper than the tests, surgeries and medications we would be paying for had we gotten heart disease and diabetes down the road. So now we'll have the extra years and years and years to pay off these loans!!:(

I am afraid mine and my wifes story is turning out to be more bad news. I second mortgaged my house to get the highest quality surgery at the best hospital around. My wife researched it all and the whole family came up with everything they could then the same story happened as you Mariasha and pretty much in the same context inside a year. The doctor was good about it and was fixing it for free. The hospital however wanted 2000 dollars for the 20 minute procedure and recovery. We managed it and here I find myself about a year later and my wife has paid as she went for all the fills and maitenance. You know they get 400+ to use that flouroscope as well. we paid it before. We also just paid it again this week. It sounds even sadder now since this flipping of the port was seemingly impossible . I think they will have to gall to charge us again. So besides fills and normal costs it is beginning to look like an extra 2500 a year for a flipped port. Originally it was just about 18000 dollars and the normal costs but then 2500 more within the first year and now a year later so far the flouroscope costs and they are talking about us paying out of pocket again. My wife has lost the weight because she is strong minded to the life style but should she be burdened with literally being robbed for 2500 a year for something they say has never happened before?

I am afraid I am going to have to lawyer up. I do not see any other way and my intention is to just force the hospital to back their doctor with warranty work.

Think about that 25000 dollars extra over a 10 year period if this continued and remember we are in our second round. comments?

Going for my first fill, they found out that my port is flipped. So I have gone every time I need a fill I have to have it done under the floro (xray). As of this morning I have lost 103 lbs since January 2009. My fills the first year were free, now I pay $125 each time I have to have a fill or a unfill due to tighteness. But it is worth it. :)
