Could really use some encouragement!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am scheduled for banding Aug. 31 and my dr submitted to my insurance yesterday and they called and said that the insurance wants food/drink/exercise logs to go along with my dr/weight loss visits. Guess what -- didn't keep any because we did not know that I needed them -- so I get to spend the weekend "remembering" everything I ate and drank since January! My dr and nurse feel really bad about this and think it's completely over the top, but I guess I have to give it a try if I want the insurance to cover -- because if they deny me then there is no way I can afford to self pay. I'm trying not to get discouraged but I'm feeling pretty down about the whole thing. Thanks for listening I just really needed to vent a little. I'm a person of faith and I believe that if this is meant to work for me then everything will work out -- but the process can be hard sometimes!

You can do it, Wendy. I know it's frustratingly busy work they're putting you through but it will all be worth it. :(

Thanks for the encouragement and ideas -- I have decided to have a positive idea about doing this log. I believe that we can learn something from everything we go through so I am going to use this as a chance to review some of the behaviour that got me to this point in the first place! It has been very time consuming but hopefully this will be the last step in gettting approval from my insurance -- I qualify in every other way. Thanks again and good luck on your journeys--I'm looking forward to continuing mine.

Just remember each month you fill out is worth $1500 that's pretty good pay for a journal!

Just remember that dealing with the insurance is all about jumping through hoops. If you jump through enough of them, you will get your surgery. I had to jump through hoops for 18 months before I got approved, but I am banded now and loving it!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
