Hey everyone as I type I'm on the other side! I'm finally banded and I'm loving it. My pain level is a one. I had to gas pain just my throat is sry as ever but since I can't drink anything I'm living off biotene mouth wash and cotton swaps with Water.

EVERYONE BUY THIS MOUTH WASH IT HELPS SO MUCH!

the surgery was about 2 hours went in at 2 out at 4 and went right to my recovery room. Then I had about twenty visitors so it kept my mind off the soreness of were my port is located but a little morphine and I'm good!

I am so happy and today I finally told the world about my surgery and to my surprise everyone was supportive.

Good luck to everyone this month and please any questions message me

Ps. I'm so bored in the hospital

Just out of curiosity why did it take 2 hours for your surgery??? i was told it takes 30 to 45 min??? Thanks ZEN

You know I was told 45 minutes too but my Dr I guess took her time. She also made my band a little tighter then normal because I had so much belly fat

Congrats to all who were banded today! Best wishes for a fabulous journey. I am getting banded 3 days after I turn 29 (8/6/10).

At my birthday party tomorrow night I'm going to take lots of pics of myself with fam & friends and keep them to compare next year when I turn the big 3-0!!

I'm hoping to be a completely different person one year from now, at least on the outside. I'll always be me on the inside and I'm happy with that. I hope everyone else here is as well. It's so important to love ourselves no matter what we look like!!

I'm getting banded on Aug 13! I got my approval last week from BCBS. I am relieved i got approved before the HUGE benefit change that would've made this surgery impossible!!!!!

liquids so far have actually not been bad at all :) I am going to stay focused and keep busy to distract my mind from food! I have started crocheting 3 blankets! lol

I'm officially an August Rush!!! I got a call from the surgeons office today and my surgery and my date is Aug 18th!

I went from denied to date in 5 days!!

Now that I have a date I'm a little nervous. The office staff at the surgeons office is not very helpful and even though I have done a lot of research, I was really hoping they would give me some information, but that didn't happen. All I was told was I needed to see my nutrionist again to get the pre-op liquid diet and be on it 7-10 days before surg.

So it looks 15 days from today I will FINALLY be a BANDSTER!:blushing:

6 month diet 1-10/7-10

Appt with Surg 7-21-10

Denied 7-28-10

Approved 7-29-10 ( wow )

Pre-Op 7-17-10

Surg 8-18-10

start/now/goal

260/242/160

Not to duplicate on purpose, but I think I posted this to the wrong thread so here it goes again:

Congrats to those of you who have just been banded this week and are being banded throughout this week. It's exciting to hear all your news! My own surgery is now one week away. I'm getting nervous but it's an excited sort of nervous. I had two bad patches: one where I ate what I wasn't supposed to on this preop diet (reminds me why I am doing this since I need help losing this weight), and two, I started worrying about all the emotional stressors that one worries about right before a surgery like will I die? Am I being selfish? Why can't I do it on my own?

However, I think I'm over that now. I'm feeling much stronger and I keep my eyes and head focused on what needs to be done. I refuse to be here ten years later asking myself why I didn't do this now. Been there, done that.

Thanks for all the postings on the surgeries and your experiences. It all helps since the more information I get, the less scary it all seems. 7 more days!

You know....this clear liquid diet is for the birds. Especially with co-workers eating french fries and my hubby eating a yummy sub for lunch. My broth is just not cutting it right now. And my 3yr old had a french fry in his hand and he touched my mouth with his greasy hand and oh man the taste! But I've stuck to the liquid diet today and by this time tomorrow I will be banded! I cant wait for it to be over with and finally start getting down to business of getting skinny!

hello Msdv, I too am being banded on 8/16 nervous and excited. I am not sure how I am going to stick to my clear liquid pre-opp diet. This site is great for support.

Hello LaurieH,

I just came back from my surgeon.

So, yes it's a go for 8/16. I was so afraid about the pre-op liquid diet myself but guess what...he doesn't require one!!

I only have to do liquids the day before the surgery and now I can relate more to KellyO I have to take that citrate of magnesia stuff to clean out the bowels the day before.

He did say that he would like for me to lose 5lbs by the surgery date and I can do that easily . I can lose weight , I just can't keep it off.

Try to do your very best with your pre-op diet we made this commitment so we have to follow all of our surgeons rules.

You'll be fine!!

I hope KellyO is doing well having her surgery today. It's probably over . She is probably in her room or maybe even home by now. My Dr. requires an overnight stay.

This is the way I feel too. I'm nervous about dying on the table . I fear them opening me up and closing me back because I have some undetected problem.

I'm hoping and praying for all of us that all will go well.

It will be OK.

Jen,

I have had lots of the same thoughts! My surgery is a week from today and I am getting really excited. Like you, I decided I don't want to be sitting here a year from now at the same weight or....gasp....heavier. Luckily life is all about choices and I have made the choice to have the band help me get healthy!

As of yesterday I am officially a bandster. The surgery went really well I I've only had a little pain, thanks to liquid hydrocone. Thankfully I don't have the gas pain that will not go away, and have only felt naseous once but the fenigirn took care of that.

My nurses were awesome and only took one try to get the IV in and gave a numbing shot so it didn't even hurt. Today I'm already weaning off the paid meds and walking around as much as I can.

For those of you on the liquid phase, I recommend the Bariatic Advantage shake. My surgeon sold them and they taste good. I mixed stuff up to change it up a bit (OK'd by my surgeon). That helped a lot. The liqid diet was a lot easier after the third day. I have another week of liquids to let my stonach heal and then mushies! I never thought I would want scrambled eggs so bad!

Good luck to you all and I'll keep posting my progress. Please feel free to PM me with any questions or just to talk.

Leigh

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
