My doctor put me on meloxicam (generic called mobic) after I blew out my arthritic knee trying to do the Couch to 5K program - bad mistake!

But then I "gained" 12 lbs in 4 days!:wub::eek::cursing::smile: Talk about having a heart attack on the scale. I was going nuts until I talked with my band doctor and she asked if I was taking any prescriptions and told me that was what was doing it.

Needless to say those pills went directly into the trash - I worked way too hard to lose those 12 lbs - I would rather have a sore knee than such a huge gain showing on my scale!

Thankfully now after 3 days off of them 9 lbs has disappeared as quickly as they appeared but I won't be happy again until my scale is below where it was before I took the first pill!!

Anyone else had a prescription drug cause them to gain weight?

Funny you post this. I went on antibiotics last Thursday and have gained 6 pounds! I was away over the weekend and did eat more/worse choices than usual, plus some alcohol. However, I was thinking this seemed a bit high for a 2 and 1/2 day trip. ( I wasn't chugging cases of beer LOL) I am now wondering if the Amoxicillian has something to do with it....

I have a knee issue and the ortho surgeon gave me these injections that some kind of viscous/padding in the joint. Think it's called Orthovisc. I would speak to a specialist. It has made all the difference for me. I wish I had done it YEARS ago. You would need to go to a specialist though I'm sure not just PCP.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
