Other OTC pain meds besides Tylenol?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone take any other OTC pain meds besides Tylenol? I found it doesn't work well at all.

I've always used advil/motrin which works the best in my opinion.

I have a bad ear infection and tylenol isn't doing the job. Any meds by prescription are just too strong for me.

Anyone who uses something else that works, pls let me know.

Thank you!

On the advice of my doc when I had my gall bladder surgery in May, I took Aleve. It was for a short period of time (about two weeks), and he was okay with it (the doc who did my GB surgery also did my LB surgery).

I would call your LB surgeon, tell him what is going on, and see if he would approve your taking ibuprofen for a short period of time until your ear infection has resolved itself. You are taking anti-biotics for the infection, right, so it will clear up? I hate ear infections! I have had more as an adult than I ever had as a child.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just called dr and they said no, only Tylenol.

Oh well, guess I will suffer longer. It's been a week...my eardrum ruptured infection was bad. I'm hoping a few more days and pain will lessen. And yes, on antibiotics and ear drops.

Hey hon- Sorry you're still in pain. Boo-Hiss DK! Maybe try taking half or a third of your pain pill. It's better than nothing.

Hope you feel better soon! *hugs*

My doc lets me take Ibuprofen... even without a band you shouldn't eat it like candy but sometimes an NSAID is needed.... on the other hand if you feel strongly about following docs advice ask the ear doc if he can prescribe some Tylenol #3- (with codeine) that is band friendly and will help with that awful pain you are feeling (ear drum rupture= OUCH!)

Thanks you! I think I will take one at night until the pain is gone. I actually took an advil the night before last (just one) and I slept so good until about 2 am when the pain woke me.

Last night I didn't take one, and I was tossing and turning all night in pain.

Thanks also for the suggestion of tylenol w/codeine.

You girls are the best!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
