Just Had First Visit with Surgeon

Recommended Posts

Met with the surgeon yesterday. There's quite the long process involved and a lot of appointments to make--psych consult, at least 3 months under a nutritionist for diet and exercise program, cardiologist, upper GI, bloodwork, 2 support group meetings, etc. Have a follow-up appointment on October 2nd, at which they'll go over all of my results. Assuming everything is okay, they'll submit everything to the insurance company and once approved, will set a surgery date. I'm hoping for November, but who knows? Will make the holidays a little rough, but I'm anxious to begin my new life.

Stay sane, everyone!:cursing:

The process is long but well worth it. I have to do 6 months of the diet and exercise plan. I started it all in March and my last appointment is next month. I'm praying that I can a surgery date in September. I wish I only had to do 3 months!

As you are going through the next 3 months, it will all fly by and you'll be happy you got started. I am and I'm not even banded yet. Let us know how everything goes for you. :cursing:

It is a very long process! I started the process in January and my doctor is sending his letter to the insurance company for approval today! Hang in there...there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am actually grateful for the time it takes because it is a BIG decision and commitment. It provides time to reflect on so many things.

I had my GI work done yesterday (endoscopy) and my surgeon discovered I had hiatal hernia, which explains my heartburn and chest pain.

Hang in there and I wish you the best.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
