Severe vomiting

Recommended Posts

I have started vomiting every night for the last 4 weeks. Have had GERD even before lapband, have had band for almost 2 years. Have always had a little trouble vomiting after eating too fast or certain things, but this is different. Have been on Nexium and prilosec, nothing helps. I vomit constantly throughout night, even if I don't eat before bed. Has anyone experienced this?

If you have been vomiting every night for 4 weeks have you contacted your doctor? If not, you certainly need to as this is not normal and it could damage your band and esophagus. Something is causing this vomiting and if it's not what/how you eat then you need to get this addressed ASAP.

Call your doctor now.

This sounds like GERD. If the Nexium isn't working (like mine isn't right now!) then you are probably too tight. Getting less restriction may help. Hope you're feeling better soon. I see my doc tomorrow to have some taken out as totally out of the blue my GERD has come back with a vengence!

From what my docs say if you are constantly vomiting you should get an unfill and be checked by LB docs to see if it is the band. Getting unfilled may help but you also need to look for other reasons. Even with the BAnd we still can get sick...colds, flu, e-coli...ect. Not everything is about the band. But an unfill may protect it while you find the underlying cause of your problem.

I Just had an unfill because i was vomiting and started having trouble sleeping at night; i started waking up vomiting alot of phlem. Withing those 4wks i lost 12lbs which was awesome. My doctor doesnt know why this has happened. He says it may be stress or tiredness. I did notice that it started happening since i lost my last 10lbs. seem like my band got tighters.. but since my unfill of 1cc Ive gained 5lbs. but im now taking ;my Protein Drinks to get myself back in cycle. Has anyone had similar issue that when they lost weight there band got tighter?????

I suffer with that occassionally too. I've found that when it is really bad (waking up and immediately throwing up multiple times a night for more than a few days), that I need an unfill. If I have reflux for just one night, I usually go on liquids until the swelling goes down and the reflux stops (sometimes it can take a 3-5 days before the swelling goes down). In addition, I take Prilosec at those times 2X day to help with the reflux. I hate those times (and so does my husband).

Ok I too have had this issue this issue, but the crazy part is my last fill was a year ago aug 2009 i have lost 2003 since being banded :) well since my last fill i would say a good 140 of that. Well with in the last 3 weeks i too have been waking up vomiting and the only time i have acit reflux is if i eat sweets. Well i also have gotten so tight that if i eat solid food it comes right back up. Note: there is no pain at all. I am worried but doc said if i dont have pain and can eat some foods in slow pace and can drink shakes he is not worried. I am setting up a EGD this week just to make sure but I am also gonna do a unfil just for lil bit. I am scared too though how bout you all???

same thing happened to me right before going in for Emergency Surgery and having to have it removed. I was in the hospital 6 days. It is very dangerous. Please make sure you have it checked out.

After 2 days of vomiting my surgeon told me I waited too long to come in. Now I have a major slip and may need surgery. People take vomiting too casually. If you are vomiting more than once a week you should go in to your doctor immediately!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
