Hello All,

my date is tomorrow! (sept 24th) It was at 1pm, then changed to 8am then just an hour ago changed again to 6am. Excited, nervous...times ticking down

You should be in recovey and wondering what did you do

I hope you are one of the lucky ones, with minimal pain and are feeling great.

I'm alive! I had to be at the hospital yesterday at 7:30 and went into surgery around 9:30. We were on the way home by 1:00.

The worst part of the day: the IV ! They stuck me 8 times and each time my veins popped. Sooooo, they had to do my IV in my NECK :)! I almost got up and walked out, but the anesthesiologist numbed it before and it really wasn't bad. I also, ended up having a hernia, so he corrected that.

The gas pain is brutal:thumbdown:! Behind my chest, in my shoulder and today in my neck. It is easing up, slowly but surely. I am more sore today around my stomach and at the port site. Luckily though, I have had no nausea. I am on my Clear Liquids and just trying my best to get all I am supposed to be drinking. 64 oz. is alot when you cannot take in more than 1oz in 2-5 minutes. I usually end up dozing off!

I am so glad that I made this decision!!! And my friends and family have been a great support!!!! Good luck to the next bandies in line! My prayers are with you!!!!

Hi Moni - congratulations on starting the journey. It's still sore when I stand up from a low position so it does take a while for the healing to be complete.... 6 weeks is what the tell us. It does get day by day but did find my bra line irritating as the port site is just below. Gas is a problem for me too but not painful. I have had hiccups the last two days but that passed too. Just drinking a cup of hot chai latte before bed which I find satisfying - I use fat free milk. We'll make it... 5 days to mushies

Wonderful news Christi and so sorry you had a tough time with the needles and veins and drip... horrible. The nerves surrounding my port were 'screaming" when I came round which was immediately dealt with by morphine and injections at the site. Whew! It seems we all have one challenge or another but they do pass. Glad you're resting and taking it VERY EASY.

Hi everyone,

Surgery was Weds. 22nd. I'm moving around a lil better but my stomach is very very tight and extremely sore. I don't have any shoulder pain or gas pain. On Sept 16th, I weighed in at the nutrionists at 272 after surgery I was 275 3lbs of Fluid I guess. Today 24th, I am 268, so I lost at least 4 of my own lbs and all the surgery gain.

Can you all tell me just how much the pain is for you in your stomach and around incisions? I'd say on a scale of 1-10 I am at 6. Day after surgery I was a 9, this has been my toughest part but I haven't seen many complaints about the pain, wondeing where I stand next to the rest of you....

Thanks, Brenda

Hi,

Well my pain is minimal, something like a 3, and mind you I had no rest. I took the kids to school the next morning-so painful- and I had to cook and clean because when I came home from surgery the house was a complete mess. I thought I was going to have some physical support from my partner, but I guess I was wrong:crying:. I got into it with him today because he drove me to the store, and he did not have a care in the world when he passed a speed bump. What is the deal? And he still has the nerve to ask why I am screming when he passes the bumps, hello idiot! I just had surgery!!!! Sorry needed to vent, but I am so glad that you are doing better everyday!

Congratulations on the banding! I had mine done 10 days ago. When I woke up the pain at the port site was a 10 for me - screamingly sore but I couldn't scream. Just big tears (thank the Lord for them) and they immediately gave me injections for it. I was very tender - mainly at the port site for the 1st week. As I write this I can gently press all my wound sites and there hardly any pain at all. I really get sore if I stretch/bend over at an angle or pick up anything over 7kgs - so I don't! Keep an eye on your wounds - if they're very red, especially around the port and it doesn't improve, ring your doc. Please don't leave it ...Let me know how you're going.

Hi Brenda. I was banded the day after you and have a lot of pain around my chest and back. It hurts when I take a deep breath or cough or yawn. I also seem to have quite a lot of fluid in my lungs. The worst incision site is the port. I would say pain is about 5 at the moment and I am taking pain killers. If I don't move I feel fine but if I take that deep breath, its not nice. Good luck on your recovery x

Hi everyone!! I just got banded yesterday and thought I'd report in. :smile2: I'm pretty darn sore in the belly, especially the port site, and the gas pain has been bad too. But I'm getting by! Today is better than yesterday, and tomorrow will be better I'm sure. Gas X is helping alot as is taking deep breaths and walking a bit whenever I can. I can't get down very much liquids at this point, but I'm just working at it a bit at a time. I'm itching like crazy under my bandages, and I hope that gets better after I can take my shower tomorrow! Can't wait for that.

hilojack, glad to hear you're doing well. Also looking forward to hearing from everybody else as the month winds down!

I wonder if we should transfer this thread to the Sept 2010 group page?

Best wishes to everyone in their healing!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

    • LeighaTR

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
